I licked my lips, running my fingers over my beard as I tried to figure out the best way to answer that question. She wasn’t uncomfortable about sex, but I didn’t want her to think that it was the only thing I wanted or that I wanted from her.

“Don’t be all shy on me now,” she said, shifting to look at me.

“I was just thinking about how much I enjoyed our time today. I should be thankful for that tree falling.”

“It has been nice. But that didn’t give you the look on your face.”

I smirked as I glanced down at her. I pushed her hair over her shoulder and behind her.

“I was also thinking about what our sex life might look like.”

Her breath hitched and she tilted her head slightly, looking at me before the blush crept along her cheeks and over her chest.

“I think it could be a lot of fun, actually,” she said, a little breathless. “I mean, you already gave me a wish.”

“You mean besides bringing you to this place?”

“Yes.”

“Then what was your wish?”

“To be lifted as if I weighed nothing. You might see my curves and love them, but trust me, I’ve had plenty look at me and say I’m too big and they want nothing to do with me. So, to have someone lift me, manhandle me, it’s the best damn thing in the world.”

I wrapped my arms around her, lifting her with ease and settled her on my lap.

“Well, all the years of wielding wood and lifting beams I guess helped. Because you aren’t as heavy as you think you are.”

Her arms snaked around my neck and I had to grin, enjoying that just as much as I enjoyed her lips on mine.

“Do tell me, though,” I started, running my hands over her back and then her hips, squeezing her sides, “you have other fantasies beyond that?”

“You are just aiming to get me all flustered, aren’t you?”

“I mean, I did tell you I was curious to see how far this blush went,” I teased, moving to pull her shirt back a little to see just how much it covered.

She slapped my hand away, but her smile told me that it wasn’t a wholehearted attempt.

“No peeking at those goods yet. I need a band on my finger first.”

“Oh, is that the way it’s going to go down? I mean, we do have the papers, but you want the ring.”

She played with the hair at the back of my neck, and I basked in that feeling.

Truly, it was the simple things that I seemed to be enjoying with her.

“Do you have that?”

I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close to give her a soft kiss before nodding.

“I do have it. It’s something special to me, but it’s a piece of jewelry I was saving to give to my bride. I didn’t think it would ever happen given my late age, but I’m glad I never gave it away.”

“Someday, I’m going to want to know what you brought to this piece of land and why you have something tucked away like that.”

“Simple answer. This was my grandparents’ land. They gave it to me. And the ring I have was my grandmother’s. She was a woman I looked up to a lot. In fact, I spent a ton of summers with them in their cabin.”

“You didn’t have a home anywhere else?”

“Nope, just wanted it here. I told you I can take care of you, and I can. I’m not rich, but there’s plenty of money left from them and my parents. I just like the solitude and the memories here that I never wanted to live in a rural area.”
