She closed her eyes, but they flew open a moment later.“No.It’d be too easy to fall asleep like this.”
“Why not?We had an early start, went for that run, and rest is as important as anything else.”He closed his eyes.As if to prove his point, he found himself reluctant to open them again.
He knew he should be making the most of his time with Misty. After all, he wasn’t going to be able to see her for the next few weeks. At the same time, he took advantage of having his eyes closed to catalog her with the rest of his senses. Her skin was soft and warming up as they lay under the covers together. She smelled like his soap and shampoo, but something that was indefinably and unmistakably her came through underneath. He bent his head to press a kiss to her shoulder and pick up the slightest taste.
She didn’t stir at the kiss but breathed evenly under him.Having her asleep next to him filled him with tenderness. As he savored the sensations, he fell asleep too.
Chapter Seventeen
Misty stirred awakewith no concept of time.Spencer’s blinds were drawn, and it was getting dark so early these days that she couldn’t tell right away whether it was 7:00 PM or midnight. All she knew immediately was that she’d woken up to Spencer’s erection poking against her thigh. He was still sleeping, and she took advantage of that to get her fill of his feel and scent.
She bent over to trace her tongue over his nipple. He twitched under her, let out a moan followed by a line of gibberish, and opened his eyes.“You could’ve just nudged me or something,” he mumbled.
“You already did,” she said, taking him in hand to prove her point.
Someone’s stomach—they were so close it wasn’t immediately clear whose—growled, intruding on the moment.Spencer reached for his phone to check the time.“It’s after 8:00.We should eat something.”
He opened a food delivery app and passed Misty the phone.“What do you want to get?”
“Chicken vindaloo,” she teased.
Spencer sighed.“I knew that was stupid as soon as I said it...unless that’s what you’re really craving.”
“Tempting, but maybe not tonight.”She scrolled through the endless options.“I doubt I’ll have a chance at decent ramen in Lake Placid.”
“You’re probably right.”
They each tapped in their orders, and Spencer put it through.“This says an estimated 45-minute delivery time.”
“What will we do until then?”Her airy tone was belied by her firm grip on him.
He let her stroke him for a few moments before placing a hand over hers.“Wait.I’m not gonna see you for weeks.I want to make the most of you before you go.”
“Well, so do I.”
Spencer turned on his bedside lamp to let a gentle amount of light in the room, enough for her to see his warm eyes and fond smile.“I want to see you.”
