“She’s pregnant,” Griff’s gravelly voice interrupted.
The nurse and I both snapped our eyes tohim.
“She’s pregnant and she passed out. Is that bad? Can someone check the baby, please?” he demanded loudly, which was unusual for his soft-spoken self.
I looked at him like he was insane. Because he absolutely was.
“Griff,” I said tersely. Why the fuck was he coming in here saying shit like that. Why would he mess with my head like that?
“Savannah,” he said firmly. He stared at me with his wide blue eyes like he was pleading with me. “Think about it.”
My mind raced through the possibilities faster than I could keep up with and I felt an overwhelming urge to just disappear because I couldn’t process it all. I brought my knees up to my chest.
I felt Griff rubbing my back for about the hundredth time today and I couldn’t take it. I couldn’t take how nice he was being to me. I didn’t want his affection. I didn’t want anyone’s… Only Nick’s… and that wasn’t fucking possible anymore.
“Stop it!” I screamed shrilly at him. “Just go!”
He backpedaled like he’d been slapped in the face, but then his eyes softened.
I didn’t want his pity.
I wanted him to fight back. I wanted him to yell at me for being so stupid. If I would’ve known…
Looking back on it, I realized I just wanted to take my anger out on someone, anyone.
And he was the only one there.
“Get out, Griff!” I screamed hysterically. “Get out!”
38. Griff
I stood outside her hospital room waiting for answers. I took off my hat and scrubbed a hand through my hair. It probably stood on end making me look like a crazy person. That was good. People were scared of crazy. Crazy got answers. Crazy got shit done.
“You need to leave, sir,” the older nurse who came walking back to Sav’s room said to me.
I looked at her like she lost her mind. Did she not realize that I was the one who carried Sav’s limp body into this fucking place and demanded an IV for her? I was here to take care of her. How could I do that if I was kicked the fuck out?
“I’m with her,” I told her gruffly, nodding toward the door.
She pursed her lips at me. “Doesn’t look like it. Are you a husband? Blood relative?” sheinquired.
I clenched my jaw and debated it for a split second too long. I didn’t want to lie, but I should’ve.
The nurse pushed past me and slammed the door shut behind her so I couldn’t hear a damn thing they were saying.
I sat on the floor opposite of the door and scrolled through my phone looking for any name that could potentially help me… but sitting there at the very top of my favorites list was the name “Nick.” I promptly shut my phone off.

After an hour of sitting on my ass on the hard hospital floor, a young blonde nurse finally took pity on me.
“She’ll be here for a couple days for monitoring,” she whispered down to me while pretending to look at paperwork.
I blinked at her confusedly. She looked around again to make sure no one would see her talking to me.
“Savannah?” She eyed me to make sure I knew she was clearly talking to me. “Dehydrated. Result of severe morningsickness.”
I wanted to ask if the baby was alright. Baby. Nick’s baby… I still couldn’t get over it… but the petite nurse swiftly walked away from me after that.
