‘Are you ready, for what may lay ahead?’
‘Such as?’ She stared directly at him, arms crossed.
‘The invasion of privacy. Look how Felix was hounded by the media,’ replied Perry, trying to sound conciliatory. The last thing he needed was a fall-out with his daughter.
‘You mean when he split up with his mad, psycho girlfriend? He was hardly to blame for that, Dad.’ Emma was on the defensive now.
‘No, of course not,’ agreed Perry, wishing he’d never started this now. ‘I just worry about you, that’s all.’
Emma let out a sigh. ‘Well, there’s really no need. Felix bought this house because it offers privacy and seclusion, you know.’
Perry nodded. ‘Yes, I know.’
‘So, despite what you might think, we are protected here. There are security cameras all over this place.’
Perry refrained from referring to the incident of Felix’s ex-girlfriend breaking in. What deterrent had the cameras been then? Deciding to change tack, he switched the subject.
‘Who else will be coming to the party?’ he asked.
Emma’s face lit up immediately. ‘Well, there’s the cast, the production team and a few close friends, plus Felix’s PA, Jennifer,’ said Emma.
‘Sounds good,’ replied Perry, thinking how much his daughter had changed, and in such a short space of time. Gone were the days when she’d come home from working in the bank, sinking into the settee and asking what was for tea. Then again, he reflected, things had changed quite drastically for him also, and all for the better. So, why not for Emma too?
