‘So… what are you going to do?’ Cassie was still trying to comprehend his actions.

‘Leave London.’ This caused Cassie to splutter. Taking a drink of coffee, she cleared her throat before speaking again.

‘But Rory, this is so sudden… I…’

‘I thought you’d be pleased,’ he replied, a touch surprised.

‘I am!’ she quickly replied. ‘It’s just so unexpected…’

‘Didn’t I tell you I was going to make us work?’ He was looking directly at her again with a frown.

‘Yes… yes you did…’

‘Then why sound surprised?’

‘I just never thought you’d do something so drastic, so soon.’ Adira’s words echoed in her mind, ‘There’s got to be a way round it.’ Had she predicted Rory acting this impetuously? She knew him pretty well after all. Then another thought occurred to her, making her shift uncomfortably. Rory frowned, sensing her unease.

‘What’s the matter?’

‘Rory, you won’t regret this will you? I’d never forgive myself if you did.’

‘No.’ he shook his head fervently, ‘It just took you to make me see how unhappy I was. I don’t belong here in London.’

‘But your job – you’re a brilliant barrister.’

‘Yes, I am,’ he grinned. ‘But there are chambers in the north, Cass.’

Cassie stared at him. She opened her mouth to say something, then closed it. Oh my God. He’d done it. He’d really done it. Rory had quit his high-flying career at Goldgate Chambers to relocate near to her. She was speechless, yet so elated.

‘I… I don’t know what to say.’ Tears stung her eyes. Rory, by contrast, was cool, calm and collected.

He gave her a lazy, sexy smile. ‘I always think actions speak louder than words.’

Cassie chuckled, getting his drift. ‘Then let me,’ she said in her most seductive voice, taking his hand and leading him back to the bedroom.

After more blissful lovemaking, they lay cuddled up together.

‘Rory?’

‘Hmm?’

‘Have you no doubts at all?’

‘About my resignation, leaving London or us?’ he asked.

‘All three.’

‘Hey.’ He nudged her to look at him. ‘None at all.’

‘Some might say you’ve sacrificed too much for someone you’ve only known a short while.’ She searched his face.

‘It feels longer, though, doesn’t it?’

‘Yes. It does.’ Then she gave a wry smile. ‘Perhaps it’s because I’ve been stalking you on your chambers’ website for months.’

He laughed. ‘And I you, on yours.’

‘Really?’ she asked surprised.
