‘Really?’
‘Of course!’ Christie laughed. Despite obviously feeling low, she sounded genuinely pleased for him. ‘I’ll be there in half an hour.’

Once Christie had arrived, Daniel was bursting to show her round. He could hardly contain himself and Christie couldn’t help but be infected by his excitement. The place was as wonderful as she’d imagined. Daniel’s flair for design was brilliant, making the most of the space, keeping it airy and bright with skylights and an open-plan design.
‘It’s fabulous, Daniel, it really is,’ she said in awe, gazing round the kitchen.
‘Thanks. I just wish, you know…’
‘What?’ She turned to look at him.
‘That things were good for you too.’ He looked into her eyes. They looked a little red and swollen. Had she been crying? A lump formed in his throat.
‘I may have to sell The Templar.’ Her voice cracked as she spoke.
‘Oh, Christie, come here.’ He pulled her into him and hugged her close. Why did life have to be so hard?
