The pace of the music increased again, and Jax had me floating around the room. I couldn’t deny that I felt things in his arms I’d never felt before; safe, adored, beautiful… like the leading lady in the story of my life.

There was one more feeling that I couldn’t deny. I could feel it in every pore of my body.

Jax Cartwright made me feel loved.

Jax

I’d never been in love. In fact, the last time I felt loved was when Mum was alive. I loved my friends, my life, my job, but loving another person… I’d always thought it was impossible for me.

But here I was dancing with a woman who stole my breath, caused my body to hum, brought a smile to my face, and made me want to spend every moment with her. I had no idea how to explain how she made me feel, but in this perfect moment, all I wanted to do was lean in and whisper,I love you.

But it was crazy. Too soon. God, we’d not even slept together, but I knew I wanted to be with her.

Instead of declaring my feelings, I kept my mouth busy by kissing her. Slowly. Dipping my tongue into her mouth, pouring my feelings into her rather than scaring her off by saying them.

When I eventually pulled away, Helen was breathless, her pupils blown and her lips swollen.

“You ready to go home, beautiful?”

“Absolutely.”

Chapter 19

Helen

The car journey home had been torturous. It dragged on forever and Jax’s hand on my leg the entire way had not helped. I was so turned on that my thighs felt wet and I wondered if it was inappropriate to hitch up my dress so I could show him what he was doing to me.

And now he was standing behind me, his arm wrapped around my waist as he nuzzled into my neck. I should have been worried if the neighbours could see, but right now, all I cared about was getting the key in the lock of my front door, but my shaking hands were making it impossible.

“Bloody thing,” I muttered, making Jax chuckle, the sound like a flaming arrow to my oversensitive lady bits.

“You okay there, beautiful?”

“Key. Lock. Can’t.”Oh, God. Now I’ve lost the ability to talk.

“I like you like this.” His hand covered mine, and he helped me turn the key with ease. “Desperate. Now get inside.”

He barely had the door locked behind us when his lips crashed against mine and his hands grabbed my arse, pulling me hardagainst him. “Tell me what you want?” he demanded in between kisses.

“You,” was all I could say.

“Let’s go to bed, because, while I want to do unspeakable things to you right here, I also want to be able to explore every inch of you.” Taking my hand, Jax guided me up the stairs until we were standing in the middle of the bedroom. “Lose the dress, but keep the shoes on.”

I dropped my eyes, wondering if I could do this, nerves bubbling in my stomach.

“Helen.” I looked up to find Jax smiling down at me. “You are perfect, and I want to look at you.” He gathered the material of my dress, pulling it up my body and up over my head, leaving me in my underwear. “Turn around.”

I moved slowly, stepping closer to the bed. Jax reached up under my camisole, unhooked my bra, and removed that as well, so the soft silk dusted my nipples.

“Can I touch you?” he whispered against my ear and I nodded in reply, my mouth too dry to speak.

His hand skimmed my skin, dancing over my stomach and up to my breasts. He cupped them both, rolling my nipples between his fingers, making my back arch, pushing me further into his touch.

“I think you should wear silk all the time. Ever since I saw you in that robe, it’s all I’ve been able to think about.”

I wanted to reply, but the need burning through me torched my words.

“The way it clings to your curves…” He guided me to kneel up on the bed, parting my thighs as he stepped in behind me. At some point, he’d ditched his shirt and his warm skin pressed against my back as his hands moved over my body. “I’ve never heard you this quiet. Are you okay?”
