Oh, how I wanted to see Kai in a pirate outfit.

“All of this means a lot, and yes, I definitely want to go to Renn Faire if the dates work. I may just stay on suppressants for the summer. I don’t know. I became an omega right around my parent’s death and my body was in such shock that I didn’t go into a heat for a while, and they’re really irregular. The campus clinic got me heat suppressants, because irregular heats and classes don’t mix,” Kai admitted. “I did have one with Logan, but it was… not what I expected.”

Well, no, because he was selfish.

“Whatever you need.” I squeezed Kai’s hand. “Do you want to put together a puzzle?” I nodded to the shelves of games, puzzles, and books.

Kai beamed. “I’d love to.”

Chapter Twenty-One

Steven

Iglanced at Ashton’s location on my phone. He and Kai were at a coffee shop right by my favorite comic book store. My meeting ended a little early, maybe I’d visit the shop first to give them a little bit more time together.

It was nice to spend time with just Kai this morning and I wanted to do the same for Ashton. While us being all together was nice, her having a little one-on-one time with us seemed good too.

I was falling for her.

So was Ashton.

If I could think of some way for us to be all together, I might bring it up. But I had nothing, and I didn’t want to suggest anything without a plan.

“There you are. If I didn’t know better I’d think that you were hiding from me.” Marilyn appeared before I could leave.

Iwashiding from her. Because I didn’t want her to know that her plan worked too well.

“What? Of course not. As I said in my texts, we met her, took her out, and showed her a good time. I believe the bet is satisfied,” I replied.

“It is. Looks like you had a good time. She’s really great isn’t she?” Marilyn gushed.

“Yeah. It’s too bad, she’ll be going home soon.” Sadness welled up inside me at the thought.

“That doesn’t mean you can’t see her again.” Marilyn’s look went sly.

Dang it! I shouldn’t have given her hope like that.

“I don’t know. She’s career focused, we’re career focused.” Maybe Marilyn had ideas, considering this washer plan to begin with?

“I’m sure you’ll figure it out. I’m glad it’s going well.” Marilyn turned and left.

Figure it out?That wasn’t helpful.

Leaving practice, I got into my car and drove to where they were. As I walked past the coffee shop window, I saw the two of them putting a puzzle together. I didn’t really have the patience for puzzles, though Ashton and I did them together sometimes.

I went into the comic book shop and looked to see if there was anything new. While I didn’t find anything for myself, I found a keychain figure from a graphic novel series Kai liked. She could put it on her backpack next to the little penguin, so that he’d have a friend.

Browsing a little more, I finally bought the keychain and texted Ashton.

Me

Finished early. I'm here.

“Steven.” Kai shot me a big smile and waved as I walked into the cheerful coffee shop.

Oh, how I loved that smile. Last night was extraordinary. I’d loved fucking her, knotting her, sharing her with Ashton, and watching her fall asleep on top of him in our bed and not waking up even when we moved her.

That’s why we let her sleep. It seemed terrible to wake her up and make her go back to the hotel when we could cuddle her all night long
