But Graces? Yeah, they could always be had in the bathtub.
Chapter Fourteen
Wes
Iwaited nervously at the Motor Vehicle Division, glancing at the clock. She’d been gone a long time. But I got no worries from our bond.
Should we have waited? Maybe? But I’d been quizzing her on road rules at lunch.
This morning, she’d discovered that the MVD had a cancellation, and she could get a driving test spot today after work. While I’d made plans for a little date-night, a minor delay wouldn’t hurt.
An alpha older than me waited next to me, fidgeting on the hard plastic chairs outside the testing area.
“My daughter’s taking the test. I’m a little nervous. Yours too?” he said.
“My mate. She’s got this.” Really, Grace was an excellent driver, unless there was a roundabout. If she got her own car, I wasn’t sure where she’d park it, but it would be good for her to have her license.
I wanted her to feel secure here. Having things like a license and her own money would help with that.
My truck pulled up. The tester got out of the passenger seat. Grace tumbled out of the truck and ran to me.
“You passed?” I hugged her.
“Yep. I passed the written and the driver’s tests. They also let me take the written motorcycle test. Now I can practice with Jett and then I can take that one.” Beaming, she dragged me inside so she could get her license.
Was I as excited for her to get her motorcycle license? No. But I wasn’t going to stop her. I worried about the safety of Evan and the rest of the pack, too. I just didn’t share my pack’s love for motorcycles.
We went back to my truck.
“Can I drive?” she asked.
“Actually, let me? We’ve got our date tonight, and the roads are a little tight.” I opened the door to the passenger side and helped her in.
“Okay.” Her shoulders shook a little in excitement as she texted someone–probably Evan, who was out with Riley because it was Thursday.
“Hey, the symposium Spencer and I are attending is coming up fast. I can still cancel if you want me to,” I told her.
She shook her head as she continued to text. “I know you’re not big on travel, so the fact that you want to go means that Iwantyou to go. I’ll be okay with Jett, Bren, and Evan. You’ll only be gone a couple of days.”
“I know.” Iwasexcited. Not about Spencer making me speak in public, but for the keynote speaker and some of the hands-on workshops. I just worried about both me and Spencer being away from her.
Really, Spencer should stay home. He was still recovering.
“Also, I’m excited for the concert with Brennan.” She bounced in her seat, still texting.
“I’m sure you’ll have a great time.” I left the freeway and started down the road that would take us to our date.
Grace looked out the window. “Where are we going?”
“I promised to take you to all the places we dreamt of. We haven’t been to Starry Point yet.” It was a lookout with a beautiful view of the city. We used to make out there sometimes in our dreams.
Delight flooded her face. “I’d forgotten about Starry Point.”
Her phone beeped, and she looked at it.
“Everything okay?” I asked.
“Creed got the job offer, and he’s accepting. I’m happy for him.” She texted him back.
