He had it bad for her. Hmmm. That was going to be a courting gift, wasn’t it?
“Fuck, Grace is going to amass a doll army, aren’t you? We’re going to have a creepy doll room.” Riley rolled her eyes.
“I could buy lots of these, couldn’t I? I want a room of dolls and stuffies and a permanent blanket fort.” Grace’s eyes went alight as she continued to scroll on her phone.
“I mean, there are worse hobbies. My sister had an army of them,” Brennan said.
Wes shuddered. “I remember. My sister hadone. It was always watching me.”
“Watching, always watching.” Grace laughed.
Riley let her brother go. “Thanks, Spence.”
“Anytime, Riley,” I told her. “Really. You can both amass creepy doll armies.”
“Hard pass on the doll army. I will take a chicken army.” Riley grabbed a container and plopped down.
“I’m not sure that’s allowed in our neighborhood,” Brennan said.
Grace snorted. “That’s silly. I had a chicken army growing up. Maybe we’ll get a duck, too. To the hardware store!”
“Right, because that’s where your chickens come from.” Brennan rolled his eyes.
Jett handed me a container. “Why don’t we eat before it gets cold. Also, I vote for a bunny army.”
“Hedgehogs. I had one when I was small.” I nodded as I opened my container.
Evan handed one to Grace. “Oh, I remember Sir Pemberly.”
“I want all the pets,” Grace declared. “Let’s get a kitten and a puppy, too.”
“I like the way you think,” Riley agreed. “Though I’d like a mini tiger.”
“What?” Grace blinked.
“Oh, someone decided to genetically engineer a few animals to be tiny and sell them as pets, such as mini tigers,” I explained, realizing she might not have them.
Jett shook his head. “Mini tigers don’t actually make good pets. They might be the size of dogs, but they’re still tigers. Also, they might eat the chickens and bunnies.”
Riley rolled her eyes. “Fine.”
I’m sure they’d find another pet for us. Yes, we were going to have an army of dolls, pets, and children, weren’t we? I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Chapter Six
Jett
“Jett, should we order lunch?” Brennan propped himself up on one elbow as we lay on the bed in the massive villa at the fancy beachside hotel.
“Yes, please. I need to look through some things as well. I’m going to be owing favors to Cam and Lexi forever. Not to mention all the time off I’m using. At least everyone at the station understands.” My boss was pretty lenient with us needing off for pack emergencies as long as we could cover our shifts.
I reached over and smoothed Brennan’s dark hair. With how much had been going on over the past couple of days, it was nice to have this time alone.
“Well, hopefully we can bring Spencer home to Rockland tomorrow. If not, I’ll send you back along with Riley, and whoever else needs to go home,” Brennan said.
“Sounds good. Though I’m enjoying this right now. What do you want to eat? We should order something for Grace, too.” I glanced at the clock. Everyone else was at the hospital with Spencer. Grace was asleep in one of the rooms downstairs.
“Yeah.” His brow furrowed, and conflict flowed through the bond.
