"Is that a problem?" I ask gently.
"No. It's... nice, actually. I feel safe with him here."
"Good. Then let him hover. Call me tomorrow when you know about your car."
"I will. Love you, Chloe. And thank Tyler for me. If he hadn't called Rampage..."
"I know. We'll talk tomorrow."
After we hang up, I collapse back into Tyler's arms.
"She's okay," he says. "Thanks to you keeping her calm and me knowing who to call."
"I can't believe that happened. Who does that? Who follows a woman and tries to get in her car?"
"Predators. Men who see a woman alone and think she's easy prey." His voice is hard. "But they picked the wrong woman. Emily's connected to The Watchmen now. They'll make sure she gets home safe."
"Rampage was so fast. How did he get there that quickly?"
"Because that's what The Watchmen do. They protect. And when one of their own calls for help, they drop everything and respond." Tyler pulls out his phone. "I need to text Phantom. Let him know what happened."
"Your cousin?"
"Yeah. He'll want to know what happened."
I watch him type out a message, then settle back against his chest.
"Thank you," I say quietly.
"For what?"
"For knowing exactly what to do. For calling Rampage immediately. For keeping me calm while keeping Emily calm."
"That's what I'm here for, baby girl. To take care of you and the people you love." He presses a kiss to my forehead. "Though I have to admit, Rampage was already halfway there before I even called."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean he was already in the area. He told me later that when my call came through, he was only five minutes from Emily's location."
"That's lucky."
"That's The Watchmen. They patrol the highways, keep an eye out for trouble. It's what they do."
My phone buzzes.
Madison: How's Emily doing? Have you heard from her?
Chloe: She's safe. Staying at The Watchmen clubhouse tonight. Car needs repairs so she can't drive home.
Holly: Is she comfortable there? With all those bikers?
Chloe: She says they're taking good care of her. Making tea, bringing blankets. And Rampage won't leave her alone.
Madison: Rampage won't leave her alone? Interesting...
Lily: Very interesting.
Chloe: Stop. She's traumatized. This is not the time.
