“You have no idea how many people I know who’ll do almost anything for a six-pack of beer and a pizza.” Laird winked at him. “But I’m sure you have people who wouldhelp too, Raven and Ben, Naomi, any number of other people you work with and/or have helped have a baby?”

“They would help me in a heartbeat.” Heck if he mentioned it to Charlie, he imagined Kaleb would just hire somebody to come paint the house for him, or maybe Kynan, who was a contractor and would just end up coming over with a sprayer and doing it.

Well, that wasn’t a bad idea. If Kynan didn’t want to do it himself, maybe he knew someone Devon could hire to do it. “I think we ought to hire out the painting.”

Laird licked his fingers, making Devon stare, completely unable to look away. “Contribute to the local economy. I like it. Didn’t you say you had somebody you knew who was a contractor?”

Devon nodded, liking how this plan was coming together. He also liked how Laird looked licking his fingers. “I do. I’ll ask him if he has a crew that can do it, or if he knows somebody who has a business that does painting.”

“Perfect. That cuts out one great big job, and lets us get most everything done today.” Laird tapped a bunch of stuff into his phone. “I’ll have to see if I need to run to the store to get anything for the stairs. Otherwise, I think we’re good to go. If you have trash bags, that is.”

“I do have contractor bags, and there’s somebody in town would like the rosewood when we trim back the roses. He’ll come pick it up.”

“Excellent.” Laird leaned forward to give him a light kiss before starting on the next sausage biscuit.

“Thank you for all this. I appreciate it. It just seemed so overwhelming.” He sipped his own coffee, the whole day gone from gloomy to perfectly reasonable.

“That happens when you’re on your own. I get it. I thinkit’ll be fun. Afterward, we can take a shower together, have a nap, and then order something wild for supper.”

Devon nodded. “Or we can go to Señor Dragon’s, and just pig out on Southwestern Egg Rolls and Kung Pao Adovada.”

“Sounds great to me.”

To him too.

Honestly.

He did love Señor Dragons, and spending the day with Laird made him smile. Maybe after he would invite Laird back, they could sit and watch a movie together all curled up on the couch. It wasn’t as cold, so snuggling under a blanket wasn’t so much of a thing, but they could still have some kind of decadent sweet and hold hands, maybe neck a lot.

He figured that was the perfect end to a good day.

Chapter

Five

Laird got up in the morning and headed for the bathroom, glad he had brought his shaving kit and his toothbrush over to Devon’s so he could just get ready and go straight from there.

He was supposed to be working a double today, and he wasn’t really looking forward to it. He was super relieved when he checked his phone and Nick had texted him.

Hey buddy, Jinx is back from his mom’s thing whatever it was a day early, and he said he would take our shift today along with Blake. We get to stay in bed

He texted back,

Super cool, man. I will see you tonight

Laird went into the bathroom to do his business, washed up, and headed back to bed, where Dev was still a mound under the covers, all warm and cozy.

Now being under there with Devon was a much better idea than going into work.

Dev’s stretched, his back popping. “You have to leave already, babe? It’s warm and cozy in here.”

God, was anything cuter on earth than his lover, all dozy and naked and in the covers? No. The answer to that question? Absolutely not.

“I got the day off. We get to stay in bed.”

“Mmm, excellent news.” Dev lifted up the covers. “C’mere.”

He crawled back under the covers, giving Devon his cold hands and a warm kiss.
