“You’re going to lock the door anyway.”

“I am. Don’t even think about going through the window. I’ll catch you.”

I swallow hard and nod. After a beat, Will shuts the door and locks it from the outside. Immediately, I turn towards the window and manage to get it open.

Without hesitating, I maneuver my body through out the window. Thank god this house is only one story. I run around the side of the house. The driveway is in my line of sight…

When Will steps right into my path.

I stop in my tracks. “How did you –,”

“I figured you would run. I was waiting for you out here. Now, get back inside.” He grabs my arm and makes me crawl back through the window. Humiliation courses through me. The wedding dress makes it challenging to move at all. Will shuts the window behind me and right before my very eyes, I watch as he instills a lock on the window from the outside.

He doesn’t even look at me the entire time.

Once he’s done, he walks away, leaving me fully trapped inside the room.

Enzo

“I can’t believe that asshole got away,” Nico grumbles as I drive us back to my house. I was so close to getting my sister back but she slipped through my fingers. Marco managed to run andescape before I could give chase. I’m no use to Gianna if I’m dead.

It wasn’t hard to figure out who was responsible for Gianna’s kidnapping. Francesca called me the second it happened. She gave me the license plate of the car she saw Gianna being taken away in and I called one of my hacker guys to trace it. It led me straight to a church where it was obvious Marco was trying to marry my sister.

That is the last thing I’m going to let happen.

“I will get Gianna back,” I state.

“You better. You promised me her hand. I don’t want some other fucker getting his hands on her before me.”

I tense at Nico’s words. “She is not your property, Nico.”

“That’s not what I meant. I just want her back.”

“And so do I. She’s my sister.” The one I always vowed to protect and I wasn’t able to keep my promise.

That cuts me to the core deeper than anything else has in my entire life.

Chapter Five

Gianna

Will opens my door after I’ve spent hours alone in the bedroom, worried out of my mind what’s going to happen to me. The sight of him both terrifies me and relieves me. He’s still a hitman at the end of the day so who knows how he might hurt me, despite his claims that he doesn’t like to hurt innocent people. I’m also relieved because I have to use the bathroom and I was scared I was going to have to pee on the floor.

“Come along,” he says, motioning me out of the room.

Slowly, I approach him.

“I’m not going to hurt you. I figured you could use the bathroom. Take a shower. You smell like gunpowder.”

“That’s not my fault,” I say simply.

He looks me straight in the eye as he answers. “I know.”

With a sigh, I follow him out of the room. To his credit, he leads me right to the bathroom and doesn’t touch me. I sigh when I’m finally able to use the bathroom. My eyes find the door, knowing that Will waits on the other side. I was never allowed around men growing up. Enzo and Francesca wanted me kept pure and innocent for any man I would marry.

Well, now everything has changed. I’m no longer innocent. Not after what I’ve been through. The harsh world of the mafia came knocking and I was its victim.

The shower is tempting me but when I try to take my wedding dress off, I realize I can’t. The buttons at the back are too difficult for me to maneuver without being able to see them. My fingers fiddle with it for a long time until I give up with a huff.
