“You want me to shoot your brother again? Because that’s what will happen if our families go to war.”

A shiver overtakes me. The last thing I want is for my family to get hurt and if marrying Enzo keeps the peace, then I’ll do it. I have to be smart about this.

“No,” I finally answer after a long moment.

“Good. That’s what I thought. Now, plan the wedding.”

I clench the magazine between my hands. “I am not a slut, you know.”

“Then why did you flirt with Allen right before my very eyes?”

“To get under your skin because you’re annoying. And I am not a slut. Not even close.”

Enzo gazes at me until I have no choice but to look away. “I never thought you were a slut, Kira. Just trouble. There’s a difference. I don’t mind some trouble. But I can be trouble to and you won’t like it if that side of me comes out.”

“And I don’t want to marry a man who threatens me.”

“We can’t all get what we want, now can we?”

“I hate you,” I hiss.

“I’m not exactly fond of you either. But you are entertaining, I’ll give you that.”

I could slap him with the magazine but then that wouldn’t go over well.

With a huff, I storm out of his club, feeling weak in the knees. Enzo is going to be the death of me, I just know it.

Chapter Four

Kira

Wedding dress shopping. It should be fun but knowing I have to marry a pompous asshole who is making me plan a wedding I don’t want is infuriating. Every dress I look at makes me want to rip it apart.

“Are you ok?” Irina asks. She and Natasha share a concerned look. “You don’t seem like your normal cheery self.”

“Would you be if you had to marry a man you absolutely loath?”

Irina blinks. “I mean… we both married men who were strangers to us.”

Shit. That’s right. Irina married Nikolai after he saved her from her father and Natasha married my brother, Maksim, in an arranged marriage. Their fate is my current one.

“Sorry,” I grumble.

“Don’t be,” Natasha says. “You have to marry Enzo Bianchi. He kidnapped me. He’s terrifying. I never wanted this for you.”

“What was he like when he… kidnapped you?” It’s hard to even utter the words. Enzo is a dangerous man and now I’m being forced to marry him.

“Not kind,” she answers honestly. “But it’s a good thing he agreed to make peace instead of plunging us into a war. But I’m sorry, Kira. Sorry that you have to go through this.”

“It’s common for mafia daughters. It was always going to happen. I just didn’t expect it now.” I pick out a dress from the rack that is pure princess poofy. “What about this one? It looks like me.”

“It does,” Irina says. “You want to be comfortable in a wedding dress of your choosing.”

“My dad chose mine for me,” Natasha adds.

“And Nikolai did for me. So it’s a good thing you get to choose yours.”

I stare at the princess style wedding dress, feeling my heart rate calm down. If I have to marry a jerk like Enzo, I might as well look pretty on the day. “I’ll try it on.”
