Relief flooded Gavin. Finally, this was over.
“What about Lady Burns?” Priscilla asked.
“Not to worry, Miss Priscilla,” one of the bobbies said. “We already caught her.”
The constable nodded. “Our next stop will be to catch Mr. McGuire.”
“You will find him at one of the gentlemen’s clubs, I believe,” Gavin informed them.
The constable nodded. “Thank you, Your Grace.”
“I appreciate your assistance.” Gavin walked closer to Priscilla. When he reached her side, she leaned against him, smiling.
“It is done. You no longer need to worry about them stealing your money.”
“If not for you, I would still be in this mess.” He caressed her chin. “Now I can concentrate on our wedding.”
“And when will that be?”
He grinned. “Tomorrow, if I can arrange it.”
“But Gavin, I think there might have been some miscommunication about that.”
Confusion filled him. “What do you mean?”
“You have never proposed. In fact, you onlytoldme we were getting married.”
Tilting back his head, he laughed heartily. He loved how she made him so lighthearted. But she was correct. He needed to propose.
He took her hands and knelt in front of her, staring up into her gorgeous blue eyes. “Miss Priscilla, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, the mother of my children, and my lifelong companion as we seek new adventures every day?”
Her eyes twinkled with mirth. “Every day for the rest of our lives? That is a very long time, my love.”
“It is, but it will be well worth it, I assure you.”
She nodded, grinning widely. “Then I accept your proposal, but only because I love you so much I don’t think I could live without you.”
He stood and gathered her in his arms. “Then it’s settled. Since neither of us can live without the other, we should indeed marry, and quickly. If you keep kissing me with such passion, I’m not sure how long I can remain a gentleman.”
“Then what do you say we spend the rest of the day seeing how quickly we can plan our wedding?”
“I would say you were a very wise woman.”
Epilogue
Priscilla’s heart wasoverflowing with emotion today, and she cried over everything. She’d never thought she would be this happy, and she’d absolutely never imagined she would have such a grand wedding, especially since she and Gavin wereforcedto have it quickly.
All of her sisters had attended, along with her father and grandmother. Grandmama was overjoyed to see her best friend, the Dowager Duchess of Englewood. Many of Gavin’s friends, and most of his cousins, were also in attendance. Priscilla suspected his cousins came because they doubted he would go through with it, but thankfully, Gavin did.
She was welcomed wholeheartedly into the Worthington family, and she couldn’t count how many times she heard someone say that they were grateful that Gavin had found a woman to love and who would love him back completely.
She couldn’t stop staring at her new husband. He was so incredibly handsome, and she was certain she would always find herself staring at him dreamily. He looked even better now, only because his gaze was filled with such longing and desire. There was no doubt what was on his mind. It was on her mind, too.
“It’s so very hard to accept that you’re a married woman,” Felicia whined teasingly as she hooked her arm around Priscilla’s. “I miss the days when we were younger and causing problems around town.”
Priscilla arched an eyebrow. “We?Felicia, I believe you don’t remember our childhood as Bridget and I do. It was you and Jannette who caused all the problems. Bridget and I were angels.”
Felicia snorted a laugh. “I wouldn’t exactly call you twoangels.” She nodded. “But you’re probably right that Nettie and I gave our father more headaches than you and Bridget ever did.”
