His hair is messy, and my skin is flushed from his beard. I’m relaxed and happy and all the misery of this day has evaporated. Or at least is blocked out for now.

“These are my new favorite potatoes.” I stab a bite with my fork, my mouth still warm and tingly from the first bite. “The spice is exactly right.”

He nods, taking a bite of steak. “Cayenne is the right heat for potatoes. It doesn’t overpower.”

“I’m going to miss this.” I put another bite in my mouth, and his eyes blink up to mine.

“Me too.” He reaches out, sliding his hand along the side of my neck. “I had an idea of what it would be like, but it’s so much more.”

My eyes drop to the dark red spot I left on his collarbone, and I think about how we are together, how it’s like no one else exists. It’s like we’ve been waiting for each other all this time…

“But we didn’t wait.” I finish my thought out loud, and his brow quirks.

A sweet smile curls his lips, and he leans back. “As if I ever believed you were a possibility.”

“Would you have?”

He shrugs, taking a sip of wine. “I would’ve wanted to.”

That makes me laugh, and I answer quietly, “Me too.”

“In my mind I waited for you. I was always waiting for you.”

My heart thrills as I think about it. I love the idea of him waiting for me in his mind. It’s like how I used to dream of him, waiting for him in my mind as well.

“Maybe there’s something we can share for the first time.”

“What do you suggest?”

My gaze drifts above his head. Outside the window, the elm tree sways gently in the breeze. I think about lying on the ground under the stars. I think about his head between my thighs. I think about my wildest dreams and fantasies, and how he’s the only one I want to share them with ever.

“I’ve never had anything in my butt.”

He leans forward sharply, exhaling a little cough. “Are you saying…”

I hold my expression serious, even though I’m about to break at his surprised response. “Have you already done that with someone?”

He manages to regain his composure, setting his wine aside. “No,” He shakes his head. “I’ve never put my dick in someone’s ass.”

I meet his eyes. “Something to think about.”

“Indeed.”

MAVERICK

Time is fucking flying.

We’re living up to our new hype song eight days a week. All we do is win, and tonight we’re facing off against our old rivals the Cliffs.

Both teams are on our way to the finals, and we’re playing like hell to win this game. They know all our plays, and we know theirs. This series is tied 3-3, and tonight’s game will decide who goes forward and who goes home.

I’m back in the game full-time, and I’m playing better than I have all season. Being out here is the greatest feeling… the second-greatest feeling. Getting a hall pass from Dove has officially topped that list, but nothing beats being out here with my teammates putting it to the Cliffs.

Schultz seems to hang around me more, and I think he’s being protective since my injury. I don’t need it, because we’re playing fast and lean. I’ve made two goals, and we’re one away from winning. I intend to get it and the hat trick.

Donovan is at the bench talking to Leek, and I pull Gavin over, shouting at his helmet. “T3G!”
