The typing bubble popped up on the phone before disappearing before reappearing again.

Evelyn <3 Amore Mio:

Can I come over? I need totalk to you.

My heart pounded like a jackhammer in my chest.

Play it cool, man. Don’t scare her off by coming on too strong.

Me:

Of course. You are always welcome here, princess.

I walked into my en suite bathroom to make sure I seemed presentable enough. I had been working from home and at the club we’d just bought for the past couple of days and felt no desire to put on a suit. She must have liked the gifts, if she was reaching out to me, I figured. Or it was going to go horribly wrong and she was going to tell me to stop with the presents.

No matter if you are home or at the office, you must always dress to impress, Mio Figlio. If you are dressed like a king, you will look like a king and be treated as such.

My father’s voice echoed in my brain. Up until this past week, I could give two fucks about my appearance. I wanted Evelyn to see me at my best, but before I had a chance to change out of my black sweatpants and white tee, there was a knock on the door.

Only two people had access to my penthouse floor, Machine and Evelyn.

I ran my hand through my hair and took a deep breath before opening the door and when it was open, I tried to keep myself from falling to my knees at the goddess before me. Even dressed down in Converse sneakers, leggings, and an oversized sweater, she still was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. Her hazel eyes met mine. We stood staring at one another.

“Hi,” she whispered with a little shy wave.

I gave her a smile. “Hi… please come in.” I opened the door wider for her and frowned. Her complexion seemed paler than usual, just like it had the night we confronted Matthew.

Once inside, Evelyn was full of nervous energy, biting on her nails while she paced around my living room. She was so deep in thought she didn’t realize I had moved in front of her, blocking her path. I cupped both her cheeks. “Baby, look at me.”

Tears began to well in her eyes.

“Talk to me,” I whispered, leaning to place my forehead against hers.

She let out a shuddering breath before putting her hands over mine. “I…” She cleared her throat. “I’m pregnant, Kade.”

Time stopped. I stood there frozen in place. She moved her head from mine so she could see me. Her eyes searched mine, no doubt trying to read my expression.

Emotions overwhelmed my system. Shock and fear, but most of all, an overwhelming feeling of joy and completeness.

Tears began to fall down her cheeks as she misread my silence. I wrapped my arms around her and held her tight.

“Can you please say something? Are you mad?” she whispered into my chest.

I couldn’t keep the smile off my face. All the pain and hurt that happened between her and I couldn’t compare to the happiness that filled my heart.

I cupped her cheeks once more. “The only thing I am mad about, is you.”

She rolled her eyes.

I pressed a kiss to the tip of her nose before peppering more kisses all over her face. Evelyn let out a giggle and a tiny squeal as I continued down her jaw and neck.

I got down on both my knees, wrapping my arms around her legs. I looked up at her and then to her flat stomach, before pressing a soft kiss there. I rested my cheek against her stomach and gazed back up at her. “You and this baby are mine, Evelyn.”

Tears streamed down her face while she ran her fingers through my hair. “Fuck, I missed you,” she said on a sob.

I stood up and crossed the room, taking a seat on the couch. “Come here.”

She listened and without further instruction, straddled my lap. I stroked my thumb on her cheek.
