Bohdi held up his arm. “Bitch bit me!”

I looked at Kade in shock for some sort of confirmation. Reading my silent question, he took his phone out of his pocket. The screen was cracked and the battery was dead. He moved it from side to side. “I’ve been here all night while they got Evan stable.” He cupped my cheeks. “I’m sorry about last night. It wasn’t on purpose.”

I placed my hands over his. “Is he stable now?”

Kade let go of my face and looked down the hallway. “Yeah, for now.” A man in a white doctor’s coat walked over to us. “Mr. Romano, can I speak to you please?”

Kade gave him a nod. “Yes of course.”

They walked out of earshot, making it impossible to hear. However, I could tell by the look on Kade’s face that he was worried. The pair shook hands before the doctor walked away.

“What’s wrong?”

“They had to sedate him. He… uh… almost attacked a nurse.”

“Wait, what?!” My eyes felt like they were going to bug out of my head.

Kade shook his head before looking down at the floor. “He struggles with hospitals. Brings him back to not-so-great memories.”

I nodded in understanding. I put my hand on his arm. “You look like you need some rest and maybe some food. Do you want me to drive you home? You shouldn’t drive.”

Kade chuckled. “I don’t think my large frame will fit in your buggy.”

I let out a snort laugh picturing him trying to fit in my car. “You’re probably right.”

“Would you drive my car? Once I get freshened up, I can bring you back here to get yours.”

I nodded in agreement. I just hoped that I wouldn’t regret this decision.

I walked into the penthouse and gasped when I saw the New York City skyline in the floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse. My Converse sneakers squeaked on the pristine white marble flooring.

Exposed brick and wooden beams with black finishes made the space look luxurious with an industrial tone. Above a gas fireplace was the largest television I’d ever seen.

I looked at Kade with shock. “And you wanted to hang out at my shitty apartment over this?” I spread my arms, motioning to the penthouse.

Kade smiled before cupping my face. “I wanted to hang out anywhere you were.”

My lady bits constricted by his words. God, why did he always have to say the right thing?

Kade pressed his lips to mine before resting his forehead on mine.

“I missed you,” he whispered.

“I missed you too. But I am still mad at you so go take a shower while I snoop and then we're taking a nap.”

He laughed, pressing a kiss to my forehead.

“I’ll be quick.” He turned around and headed down a long hallway.

I spun slowly, taking in the view around me. I couldonly imagine how this place must look in the evening. An older woman walked from the opposite direction as Kade with a laundry basket full of towels. She let out a gasp and jumped back when she saw me.

I put my hands out as if trying to tame a scared animal. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

The woman put a hand on her chest as she let out a curse in Italian. “It’s okay, dear. Is Mr. Romano home?” She was old enough to be his mother and gave off a nurturing vibe.

“Oh, yes.” I briefly looked down the hall that Kade had walked down. “He's Just freshening up.” I put out my hand for her to shake. “I’m Evelyn.”

A bright smile spread on the woman’s face. “Oh, it is so nice to finally meet you, Ms. Evelyn. Mr. Romano has told me so much about you!” She beamed before putting the laundry basket down and giving me a hug. “I am Elenor, Mr. Romano’s housekeeper. Been with his family since he was a young boy.” She held me at arm’s length. “Well, I will be out of your hair shortly. Just need to throw these in the wash.” She motioned to the basket.
