Willow grimaced. “I’m not giving up.”

Chapter 34

Ezra

Ezra could not shut his fucking brain up since meeting up with Willow.

Why she was so determined, he couldn’t figure out. She was a perfect complement to both of them, evening out their jagged edges. There was no way she hadn’t already learned everything about them—she was a little computer nerd. Everything about a person could be found on the internet.

“Stop slacking, man,” Ezra gritted out as he loaded another clump of soil into the woodland grave. Charlie had been unable to pay and unable to stick with the agreed-upon bargain. With his latest attempt to flee, all bets were off. Xan had ordered them to take the man out.

Ryker snapped out of his daze, and he lobbed a shovel-full of dirt over the corpse of their now deceased target.

This is why Willow is too good for me. For us.

They were scum—they murdered people over money. The very thing she was risking her neck to give to others.

We don’t deserve her. Not even close.

After a few more shovel-fulls, the hole was filled, and he leaned his head against his hands on the end of the shovel to catch his breath. Digging graves wasn’t an easy thing to do. They had switched to another location, more remote than his cabin property.

“What did she say to you in the park?” Ryker asked.

Ezra nearly dropped the shovel as he straightened his back. “What?”

“Come on,” He leveled him with an incredulous look. “When have you ever gone to a fucking park unless it was for a girl?”

He turned to start the walk back to the van. “Maybe it wasn’t Willow.”

Ryker let out a dry laugh. “Not a chance you’ve moved on already.”

“She wants to figure out a way to get us out of this.”

His brows came together. “And you told her ‘no fucking way’, right?”

“Of course I did!” He shook his head as they emerged from the woods. “Look at this shit we’re doing right now! We have to keep her off Xan’s radar.”

They climbed in the van, and Ezra started the engine.

“Then why’d you go see her?” Ryker flipped his lighter. “If we need to protect her, then we can’t be meeting up with her.”

“I know,” he muttered with a sigh. It had been tough to take the risk, but he couldn’t help it. Especially with the way her eyes had lit up.

“I miss her too,” Ryker admitted in a low rumble. “But it’s not fair that you went back against what we agreed.” He fidgeted with the lighter in his hand.

Ezra grumbled out an apology, and they drove back to Lakeview in silence. The memory of their conversations on the drive back with Willow took up that space again in his mind. She was a funny little thing—and way too smart for dipshits like them. She should find a guy with a normal job and no shady past. Especially considering the asshole she had been with before.

The way she had opened up to them, covered in leaves, and dirt, and their cum… gorgeous. He loved the way she’d trusted them.

But she can’t trust us. She deserves better.

Ezra dropped off Ryker at his apartment, their departing words barely registering as they remained in their frustrated state. He didn’t even remember getting back to his own place, settling into his empty and cold bed. It had been so nice having her between them. He couldn’t imagine always being okay with Ryker being in the bed, but Willow brought more than something physical.

The sheets had barely warmed at all by the time he drifted off into a sullen sleep.
