Finn sighed happily, his head dropping onto the pillow. He tugged at my arm until I followed, carefully pulled out of him, and lay down on the bed next to him so he could rest his head on my chest.
“I just want to have more time with you,” Finn whispered. “I liked that last week. I mean, I was sleeping a lot and the headaches fucking sucked—they still do—but it was nice having you around more. Getting to know you. The real you. I feel like… you were always so careful before. You know? Always weighing your every word, making sure not to give anything away.”
I nodded. “I’m trying to be open.”
Because he deserved it. And because I never wanted to feel the way I did when I thought I’d lost him.
“Same.”
Finn grinned at me.
“And since we’re being completely honest, I really don’t want to pack right now. Can we, like, come back tomorrow? I’m fucking wiped. Just hand me sleep pants and a hoodie, and I’m good to go. Your bed is way more comfortable than mine.”
I barked out a laugh, his bold statement catching me off guard for a moment, but then again, I should’ve expected it. It was typical Finn, after all.
“We can pack later,” I reassured him. Relief lit up his features, and I shook my head. My mate was fucking wiped. “I’ll get you some clothes and call Bennie. He’ll come get us for sure.”
Finn nodded. “Good idea.”
It was. And once we were back at my home—our home now—I’d tuck him into bed. Where he belonged.
“Wait… do I have to shower first? Will Bennie be able to smell the sex on us? Oh, fuck… will he be able to scent that you came inside me? That won’t go away by showering, will it? Holy shit, if he can smell that, I won’t be able to face Bennie ever again.”
I chuckled, pulling Finn in for a kiss.
“Never change. Please. Never ever change.”
Chapter 34
Finn
Acouple of months, hell, a few weeks ago, I’d thought I’d stay in this little shithole apartment with the clanking heater and the unreliable water pressure for years and years on end.
That I’d start my new job, pay off my student loans, save up money for an emergency fund, and then I’d start looking into getting a bigger or nicer apartment.
What I hadn’t considered, not in my wildest dreams, was that I’d find a vampire boyfriend—sorry, vampiremate—and would move in with him within weeks. But here we were. Standing in my almost empty apartment.
The furniture was already gone. My threadbare couch had found a new owner in a girl who’d moved into an apartment on the third floor. She’d also graciously taken my old table, one of the rugs, and my bookshelf. I’d let her pick whatever she wanted, then asked her if any of her friends needed anything.
It’d taken two days for everything to find new owners—and I hadn’t even had to brave the horrors of Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist to get the stuff off my hands.
The only things left were a couple of boxes. Not many, mind you, because without space to store stuff, one tended to become a minimalist.
“That’s everything you own?” Bennie asked, raising his eyebrows.
I turned my head toward him and laughed. “Where exactly did you think I was hiding my stuff?”
I knew he’d been here at least once before. The night I’d been drugged. Which apparently had been Eric’s fault. Well, Eric said it was Aries’s fault, while Aries insisted that Eric shouldn’t order things he didn’t know.
I’d suggested not drugging people, but that’d been a hard no for Aries.
So, if the police ever came around asking about people getting drugged at CRAVE, I was now an accomplice.
Perfect.
Let’s see how long I’d be able to keep that fancy new teaching position.
Bennie shrugged, giving me a smirk. “Maybe you’re a wizard, and there really are a ton of hidden doors all over the apartment.”
