Cole rubbed his temples as if a headache were coming on.
Aidan nodded. “I know all about hiding. If it becomes a big deal, we’ll get together and come up with a statement. You both are our clients, so that makes it a little easier to control the narrative. Let us know if we can help.”
I put my arm over his shoulders and pulled him in for a side hug. “I’m proud of you, bro. You both deserve to live in the open, and Patrick knows that.”
Cole nodded, then looked over at Aidan. “Do you need us for anything else? I need to go home and smooth some ruffled feathers.”
Aidan smiled. “I’m reading over the recording contract, and we should be ready for signatures tomorrow. Everyone should have their money no later than 5pm on Friday. Other than that, I have nothing—”
As we went to stand, our exit was delayed
“Hang on a minute. I do,” Jesse said, walking over to hand a piece of paper to Aidan, before focusing his blue gaze on me. He leaned on Aidan’s desk and folded his arms over his own sculpted chest.
“How long has someone been trying to blackmail you, Adam?”
CHAPTER2
MICHAEL COLEMAN
I’d just finishedup with a security quote for a potential client when Jesse popped his head into my office.
“Phantom, I need you on this one.”
“What’s up?” I looked up, then pressed save on my laptop before closing it. I stood and circled my desk to meet him in the doorway.
Jesse held up a piece of paper. “Adam dropped this.”
Handing it to me, I read over it quickly.
I want $100,000 or I’ll tell everything.
Put it in my account.
The deep need I felt to protect the sexy rocker settled into my brain. “What do you need me to do?”
Jesse put his hand on my shoulder. “I’ve got a feeling he’s going to need to be convinced that this is a big deal. That’s where you come in. He likes you.”
I smirked. “He likes to flirt with me. That’s not the same thing.”
Handing the note back, I followed him into Aidan’s office, where Cole and Adam were evidently wrapping up their interview.
“Do you need us for anything else? I need to go home and smooth some ruffled feathers.”
Aidan chuckled. “I’m reading over the recording contract, and we should be ready for signatures tomorrow. Everyone should have their money no later than 5pm on Friday. Other than that, I have nothing—”
“Hang on a minute. I do,” Jesse said, walking over to hand the paper to Aidan.
I stood by as he leaned against Aidan’s desk and stared at the sexy rocker.
“How long has someone been trying to blackmail you, Adam?”
I observed Aidan’s expression slip from relaxed to alarmed as he read the paper. Before Adam could respond, Aidan cut in. “What am I looking at?”
Cole stood quickly and held his hand out. After reading it, he looked at Adam. “I knew it! Why the fuck didn’t you tell us she was still doing this?”
Adam dropped his head, then looked up at Cole. “It’s an empty threat, Cole. Besides, you have enough to handle without adding my shit, too. And you know it’s never stopped. There’s just been long breaks in between them.”
The rock star’s gaze flickered between Aidan and Jesse before finally settling on me. His stare caused an electrical current to course through my veins to my heart, sending me into action. I gestured for Jesse to move out of my way, then pulled over a chair to sit in front of him. I leaned forward and placed my arms on my knees. “Tell me what’s going on, Adam. This is extortion. It’s a felony, and I won’t let someone do that to you.”
