In July, Aidan and Marcus’s surrogate delivered their now three-month-old twin girls. They also had Trent, Marcus’s feisty six-year-old from a previous marriage.

I elbowed Cole and leaned way over to him. “Did you know babies can eat cereal?”

My best friend sighed and slowly turned his gaze to me. “Not the kind you’re thinking about, dumbass.”

I couldn’t help but laugh when a grin spread across his face. It seemed my words had managed to break through his bad mood.

When Aidan ended the call, he turned back to face us. “Sorry about that,” he said. “Marcus was having a hard time getting Alex calmed down. She’s not as big a fan of his singing as Maddie. Magda had to step in.” His joy was contagious, and a grin perpetually tugged at his lips.

“No problem, man. Before we start, though, I need you to weigh in. Are we creating a mystery about the song for marketing?”

Aidan sat down and turned to us. His brow furrowed as he mulled over the question. It was a complicated situation for him since he was Cooper’s friend and represented his husband, Greg Foster. I had no doubt that he was weighing everything to best protect everyone’s interests.

“I don’t think we’re going to need it. Do you think Cooper knows it’s about your breakup?”

I scoffed and ran my hand through my hair. “I’m sure if he’s heard the title, he probably figured it out. Pretty sure his husband isn’t too happy about it.”

Aidan nodded. “I get it. Maybe just say you wrote it about a past relationship. That way, you don’t have to keep up with a lie. That’s never a good way to go. Just ask Marcus.”

We chuckled at Aidan’s quip. We all knew the story about how Marcus had left him during college to sign a pro football contract. With no explanation, he was gone for ten years until he asked to be traded to the Pirates.

“You know how the media is. They’re always looking for some dirt to dig up. What if the press digs around and finds out who he is?”

Aidan shrugged, but didn’t show any concern. “You guys were together for how long, three months?”

I nodded and rubbed the back of my neck. “Yeah, sounds about right.”

Aidan’s face relaxed. “I think you’ll be fine. If they find out, we’ll deal with it then. There’s no salacious story of cheating there, and Cooper and Greg didn’t get together until six months later. I won’t say you’re worrying for nothing, but I don’t think it’ll be a big deal.”

I liked his take on things. Glancing at Cole, he nodded his agreement. “Okay. If it comes up, I’ll say as little as possible.”

Aidan smiled. “Perfect.”

His phone buzzed with an incoming message. Glancing down, he smiled. “Okay, guys. They’re ready. Here we go.”

Aidan opened the link on his computer and typed in the code for the online meeting. He smiled and greeted Ace Thompson, the nationally syndicated DJ and radio host.

“Hey Ace, how’s it going?”

Before we could get started, Jesse Evans walked in, did the up nod thing, and quietly took a seat out of the view of the camera.

As Aidan’s business partner, and the head of the security firm, he was entitled to be here. And just to make things a little more uncomfortable, and by a little, I mean a lot, he was also Cooper’s older brother.

Cole elbowed me. “We’ve got this, man.”

I grinned. “Yeah, we do. This is what we always dreamed about.”

We waited as Aidan switched the webcam from his computer to the camera in front of us. The huge TV hanging on the wall served as a monitor so we could see ourselves and Ace simultaneously. Even though this was a radio interview, it was being recorded for their website.

“Cole, Adam, it’s great to have you. Ready to do this?”

“Absolutely! Let’s do it,” Cole replied in his raspy voice, rubbing his hands together. I nodded and ran my hands through my hair before looking into the camera.

Cole was calm and collected, but I could tell he was a little on edge. After growing up together, and being in the same band for over ten years, we could read each other like a book.

“Hello everyone, this is Ace Thompson from KXLA. Today, we’re excited to have Cole Bradley and Adam Spencer from Fallen Angel with us. Welcome guys,” he said.

And just like that, we were off.
