Laughing, I waited for him to catch up to me, then threw my arm over his shoulder. “You’ve got a boyfriend now, Rockstar. And not a fake one.”

Adam stopped and looked at me. The smile on his face lit me up. “Yeah, as scary as that sounds, I guess I do.”

He hated shopping, but humored me a little longer to pick out some things I wanted to buy to cook with. Saturday night, after he moved in, I was going to make dinner for him at his new place.

“So,” he said, “I need to tell you something.”

I put the stainless steel cookie sheet in the cart and glanced over at him.

“Okay,” I replied warily.

“We’ve been invited over to Cole and Patrick’s to give out candy. Their neighborhood does this big Halloween thing every year, and they want us to come.”

“Yeah, sure. That’s cool. We should probably pick up some candy.”

Adam grinned and nodded. “Yeah, and we need to get costumes. “

I stopped and looked at him. He had to be joking. “We’re dressing up? Why do you want to do that? Can’t we just give out candy like normal people?”

“There is nothing normal about us,” he laughed. “Come on, He-Man. Let’s dress up and have fun. Then we can go to the Halloween Party at Alejandro’s after we give out all the candy. I’ll buy you a beer.”

I narrowed my eyes at him as I tossed several oven mitts and corn-on-the-cob holders into the basket, along with a four-piece set of canisters.

“Why do you want to dress up, darlin’? We’re not kids.”

“You use that darlin’ thing when you want to get your way.”

Maybe.

Probably.

“Come on, baby. I really want to hang out with them on Halloween, and it’s not safe to give it out from the old apartment.”

He was learning to work me over by pulling out the safety bit. I sighed like it was the biggest decision ever.

“Fine. But only if I get to pick out your costume.”

Adam’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “And I get to pick out yours.”

He was eyeballing me like a piece of man candy, and if he didn’t stop, we’d be doing dirty things in theT.J. Maxxbathroom.

“This is going to be so much fun. You’ll love it. You’ll see.”

“Uh-huh,” I sighed, pushing the cart toward the register. “We’ll see about that.”

I had a feeling I was in trouble.

CHAPTER15

ADAM

“There’sno fucking way I’m going to Alejandro’s dressed like this, Rockstar. He and Ben would never let me live it down. I’d never be able to go back in there.”

I smiled to myself, thinking about how Alejandro would tease the shit out of him, even though he’d look like a god in this getup.

“I don’t think you’d have to worry about any of that. He’d just be jealous that you belonged to me now.”

Michael looked at me with one raised brow. I curled my lips in to keep myself from laughing as he put the Tahoe in park and turned off the engine.
