She shivered again.

“Noted,” he said.

These s’mores were going to be the best s’mores in the history of toasted marshmallow goodness. He’d be sure of it.

Chapter Eighteen

ETHAN

They didn’t go straightto dessert.

Groceries were purchased. They drove home without any drama. Em checked in with Barbie and the pup. And then they hurried to Ethan’s place for “s’mores.”

But they weren’t making dessert. He’d barely dropped the grocery sack on the counter before they went right on in. He kissed her again. She kissed him right back. This one was different, urgent, with his hands in her hair taking charge.

“Bloody unreal. You kiss like a legend,” he said, cradling her head in his palm.

This wasn’t anything. Not really. It wasn’t. It couldn’t be. So why did it feel like it was only the two of them in the whole world?

Why did it feel like it wasn’t pretend?

And why didn’t that scare him?

“Quite the compliment.” She bit at her bottom lip.

He nodded, staring at her lips. “You’re practically a pro.”

Her eyes widened slightly.

Bugger him, that wasn’t what he meant to say.

Her cheeks pinked.

“I didn’t mean that.” He pulled back. Gave some space between them.

“Oh no.” Her grin was intoxicating. “That’s quite the compliment. Keep them coming.”

He was still feeling the buzz of their kiss, as if they were still in the middle of it. The same fluttering in his belly and hardening below the belt. He wanted to savor every inch of her.

“What are you thinking?” she asked, touching his cheek.

“I can’t say what’s on my mind,” he said, with confidence.

“Now I have to know.”

“Emmaline.” He said her name low with a subtle head shake.

“Spill it, Mr. Chef.” Ah, there was the bit of cheek he got such a kick out of.

“I was thinking…”

She gestured for him to continue.

“That I’d like to show you what I can do with my tongue between your legs. Listen to you cry out when you’re done.”

“Did you?” Her mouth fell open. “You just said that. Yes, you totally did. In yourkitchen.”

“I did,” he affirmed. “The kitchen didn’t seem to care.”
