Bax continued on with the ceremony she only slightly understood. “When a full-pocketed cur ’n a proud beauty decide t’ spend thar lives together, ’tisn’t t’ be taken lightly…”

They’d most definitely be discussing the ad-libbing later.

“Do ye Jeremy take Irina t’ be yer wife?” Bax asked.

“If rum can’t fix it, you’re not using enough rum,” the parrot on his shoulder answered instead of Knox.

“Ignore him,” Bax continued. “Just answer my question.”

“I do take Irina to be my wife,” Knox said, slipping a gold band on her ring finger. Nothing flashy. They’d agreed not to do the flashy jewelry. Originally, because it wasn’t like they’d be using it long term. But Irina actually liked that the ring wasn’t in-your-face flashy and was more subdued.

“’n do ye Irina take Jeremy t’ be yer ol’ mate?” Bax continued.

“Ye can have me booty, but leave me chest alone,” the parrot answered for her.

That got a solid laugh from the audience. She was just grateful he wasn’t cussing or giving sex tips.

“Roger, hush,” Bax said out of the corner of his mouth.

Irina side-eyed him, but took the matching gold band from Linx and slid it on Knox’s finger. “I do take you to be my husband.”

Bax continued the ceremony, still in full-on pirate. He’d seriously committed to this role.

This was a moment where decisions were made. She could either be ticked off that he went so wildly off script, or she could be impressed with his commitment to character and not following directions.

She decided being impressed was the most logical option, since getting mad wouldn’t do anyone any good or change anything. The parrot hadn’t pooped, either, so there was also that, and Courtney would likely not be angry about it.

“Knox here wrote his wench a chanty. Prepare yer ears,” Bax scooted to the side while Tanner handed over a guitar.

“You wrote me a song?” Irina asked, suddenly feeling mighty guilty about the lack of pie she’d prepared for him. She needed to fix that.

Knox grinned, nodded, and strummed.

“Yo ho, yo ho,” the parrot started up again.

Knox continued strumming until Bax got the bird to chill. Then laid it on her, piercing her with his stare as he sang.

There’s a woman in my mind,

Who always knows just where to be,

She’s there and then she’s not,

I swear she’s everything I need.

“Ohhh…” she said to no one but herself, her cheeks burning for some strange reason.

Her eyes are an enigma,

Her hair is just the same,

But when her lashes drift open,

I know I’ll find my way,

She’ll lead me all the way.

He continued on about he never knew who she’d be when she opened her eyes, but he understood no matter who she was, he’d have a helluva time.
