Ever.

That milkshake was looking better and better. Or maybe the smoothie. Of course, Tiny Badass would prefer a smoothie. Probably with lots of vegetables inside.

“Hey.” Bax kicked off from where he waited by the exit door.

“Hey,” she replied, grouchy because her cervix was the topic of anyone’s conversation.

“Why do you look like you want to strangle someone?” He pushed a piece of hair behind her ear, and her nerve endings perked right the hell up.

“Because I want to strangle someone.” Her breaths were huffing and puffing because she was hurrying in case Knox had any other stupid requests, and she had a baby pressing against her rib cage. And now she was aroused on top of everything else.

“Tell daddy about it.” Bax reached up to trace her jawline.

“Ew. Don’t call yourself daddy like that.” She shivered. “Ever.”

“What’s up, Court?” he asked, still trailing his fingertip along the column of her neck.

“Irina had a lesson last night with Knox, Mach, and Tanner. Reviewed what to do if I need someone to deliver Tiny Badass,” Courtney said, trying to keep her opinion out of it but unable to remove it completely. “While we’re on the road.”

Bax tilted his head to the side. “That sounds really smart.”

Yes, well, Irina was probably trying to get an idea of exactly how a person gave birth. Where the baby came from. Came out.

Courtney ground her molars together again. She really needed to stop doing that, or she’d need a dentist and a medical professional to travel with them. “Knox wants to check my cervix.”

“Your cervix?” Bax seemed confused.

“You know.” She leaned in closer. “Where the baby’s going to come out.”

“He what?” Bax yelled, clearly as appalled as she was.

Uh-huh. She could relate.

Bax made two fists and scanned the backstage area. “I’m going to kill him.”

She reached for his shoulder. “You can’t kill him. If you did that, you’d go to jail, and our baby would never know you.”

“Fuck.” Bax apparently did not love that he couldn’t commit murder.

Knox, unfortunately, took that moment to saunter by.

Bax tapped him on the shoulder.

Knox raised his eyebrows. “Good show, man. Nice work out there.”

Bax stepped forward, right up in Knox’s face. “The only guy checking Courtney’s cervix is me.”

Well, not exactly, because she wasn’t even going to let him—

“We clear on that?” He patted Knox on the shoulder and mimed wiping dust from the cotton fabric.

Knox glowered at Courtney.

She glared right back.

Neither of them really meant it.

“Fine. You do things your way. But if things go south, don’t say I wasn’t trying to be prepared.” He pointed his middle and index fingers toward his eyes, then at Courtney, as though saying,Comprende? But with finger motions instead of words.
