Courtney made some mental notes because she’d probably need to use a tone like that for this whole motherhood gig.
“Fine. But when this show is over, you’re telling me everything.” Knox turned and managed a stuntman-esque flip jump onto the stage. He didn’t miss a beat, jumping right in to rock out.
Courtney didn’t want to turn around. Shereallydidn’t want to.
But she had to, so she turned to Hans.
“Hey, Hans. This is Irina.” She gestured to her bestie. “My traveling birth guide.”
Hans kept his arms crossed and raised his eyebrows. “I’m not saying I agree with you. But I’m also not saying I agree with Bax. You two have to sort this one out yourselves.”
With that, he turned on his dress shoes and meandered back to wherever it was Hans went during the shows.
“He knows, doesn’t he?” Irina whispered, but kept the accent. “He’s got that look like he knows.”
Oh yes… “He knows.”
Because this was Hans.
Hans knew everything.
“I have a question,” Irina asked, raising her hand..
“Yup. Shoot.”
“You are going to have Bax’s baby.”
Courtney nodded. “Yup.”
“And I’m your best friend.”
Courtney nodded again. “Yup.”
“So that makes me sort of an aunt to this child.”
Courtney was not loving the direction of this conversation because it was starting to dawn on her that—
“Which means eventually Bax will see me outside the role of traveling birth guide.”
Courtney pulled her lips to the side. Perhaps she hadn’t thought this all the way through.
“Here’s what you’ll do. You are still my best friend.” Courtney crafted the plan on the fly.
“Good to hear.” Irina nodded.
“You speak with your normal accent.”
“Okay.” She still said this with her French accent.
“And you moonlight as a traveling birth guide. This will be your last gig before you hit the big-time.”
“So far, I do not hate any of this plan,” Irina said with a huge smile.
“Perfect.” Courtney shifted on her feet.
“Are you sure I can’t use the accent? I’ve been practicing since you called.”
Courtney shook her head. “Unpractice it.”
