“Uh.”

“You’re getting your way. I’m getting a little of mine. I’ll select the person to come with us.” See, everyone won.

“Okay, then.” Bax nodded carefully. Cautiously.

Which was probably not misplaced caution, given that there was no way she would have someone staring at her while she peed or drank fluids or any of the other stuff she figured a medical babysitter would observe.

Besides, she preferred to follow actual medical advice versus Bax’s pre-tour panic.

“Okay,” she replied, ready to call Irina and see if she was between gigs… and what she knew aboutnothaving to deliver babies on tour or give Courtney shit about how much water she drank or didn’t drink. Courtney squatted so she could crawl out the door.

“Do you want to have dinner tonight?” Bax asked, like they hadn’t been having dinner together every night since she’d moved in.

She turned, glad she hadn’t quite made it out, because then she’d have to come back in. “Huh?”

“A real dinner.” He seemed adorably uncomfortable asking her this.

She squinted at him, trying to figure out his angle. “Like a date?”

He nodded. “Like a date.”

“Adatedate, where we go out to determine compatibility with one another?” To be clear, because otherwise it could be uncomfortable.

He nodded again, and he was a little pale this time.

“Are you allowed to ask me out on a date in the pirate ship?” she asked, sort of savoring the request because it turned out being asked on a date by Brennan Baxter was pretty exceptional.

“Figured you’d probably want to argue about it a little, so we’re in the right place for that.”

His logic was sound.

“What are we going to be eating?” Because that was really the only determiner whether they’d argue.

Was that hope in his expression? It totally was.

Her whole heart seemed to warm up.

“There’s a new vegan place downtown I’ve been wanting to try,” he said. “Or if Tiny Badass is letting up on your dietary restrictions, me andmy Courtneycan hit up a burger joint.”

Her tummy fluttered at his use of “my Courtney,” but there wouldn’t be a burger joint. Tiny Badass was not letting up. Courtney’s cravings for whole foods, naturally sourced options, were getting a little out of hand. “A vegan place sounds perfect.”

“So that’s a yes?” Apparently, he needed to confirm this.

She was happy to give him that confirmation. “That’s a yes.”

Chapter Seventeen

Bax

Bax didn’t get nervous. Not anymore. He played stadiums full of people and had the confidence to pull that shit right off, so he shouldn’t have been nervous.

There was nothing to be nervous about.

He and Courtney spent a helluva lot of time together. Had now lived in the same house for weeks.

But tonight was different.

Tonight, they went public with their relationship. Tonight, he dressed up—seriously, in a suit jacket and everything. Tonight, he wanted to show her and the world that he was ready for more. Hoped to convince everyone thattheywere ready for that.
