It felt…Dammit, it felt amazing. The sunshine of his attention was becoming her personal drug of choice.

She inhaled a deep breath and let it out. Then she said, “Sorry, I can’t take the job.”

He frowned. “Why?”

“Because I’m a therapist.” Thanks to her mother and her auxiliary lunch, Becca had an idea. She called her old boss and pitched it. He loved the concept. Together they would develop a virtual life-coaching platform with certified therapists. Teaching everyday people to put a voice to their emotions with a heavy focus on figuring out what made a person thrive.

She’d be able to help patients again, and still live a life outside of work. She’d have…balance.

Linx frowned, his shoulders drooping. “You’re going back to Portland?”

No. She wasn’t. Not for anything other than work trips and visits with her friends.

“I’m going to work, virtually. Wherever there’s WIFI.” She traced the leather bracelet she’d given him, still on his wrist.

“We have WIFI on the tour bus.” He gave her the lightest of nose rubs with his own.

Then he looped her arms around his neck and, one arm under her knees, the other around her back, he rose from the chair.

“That’s probably a good thing, then, huh?”

“My girlfriend’s gonna be a guru.” He grinned at that. “I dig it.”

“Maybe I’ll even get my own table at the retirement home.” She chuckled.

He shivered. “Hard no from me.”

“We should get out of here,” she said, low. “You can take me on an actual date this time.”

“Do you want to go on an actual date?” He sounded surprised. Like it hadn’t occurred to him.

They were moving toward the exit. And they were a them.

“Yeah. I do,” she said.

“Where do you want to go?” he asked, as Courtney held open the door for them and ushered them outside.

She shrugged. Anywhere, as long as he was with her.

“Courtney’s here, and Mom and Dad took a few days to go up to Estes Park. Mom’s always wanted to stay at the Stanley Hotel.” The wicked smile stretching across his mouth gave away his intentions for some time alone. They were excellent intentions. Who needed a proper date right off the bat, anyway?

Not when this was only the start. They had all the time in the world to go on that real date.

“My place?” he suggested, as he carried her toward his Porsche.

“Okay. That sounds fun.” She pulled back slightly, her gaze meeting his. Then a little half smile quirked at the side of her mouth.

Oh. Yes. This was only the beginning.

Linx

Later that night…

He’d stopped on the way home for chocolate cake. Then he’d enjoyed it in his bed with his Becca. Then he’d enjoyedher.

She reached up to trace his cheek with her fingertip. “Now that you’ve got a girlfriend, do you have to break up with all your others? The cities?”
