“Aren’t we meant to be visiting your awful cousin tomorrow?” I asked.

I wasnotlooking forward to that, even if Kithadshut her down.

“Oh fuck that,” Kit said. “I was always planning to be too ill to go. But this is a better idea.”

I loved it when he swore, and I couldn’t help grinning at him.

“Won’t your mom kill you?”

“She can’t kill me if she’s planning to marry me off, can she?” Kit asked, smiling back. “Besides, I don’t care. You come first.”

“I remember coming second,” I teased.

“I was making a promise,” Kit’s smile widened into the broad, mischievous one that showed off his canines and made my stomach flutter whenever it was directed at me. “Go on. Run away with me.”

I would’ve run away with him anytime he asked, but I especially wanted to do it right now.

“I’d like that,” I said.

“Good.” Kit squeezed my hand again. “We’ll go tomorrow. Avoid the worst of the family drama, then come home and get very drunk for the rest of it.”

I laughed, excited at the idea of some real alone time with Kit. “Can’t wait.”
