“Could do alotworse,” Fox agreed. “Quinnlikes him.”
“Should I trust Quinn’sjudgement?” I asked. “He likesyou,after all.”
“Ooh, harsh.” Fox grinned atme again. “Might have a little more bite ifyoudidn’t feel the same.”
There was that prickle ofheat again. I scratched the back of my neck, glancing over Fox’s shoulder atAshley. He caught my eyes, offering me a small, bright smile before turning hisattention back to Miles and Quinn.
I was slowly accepting thatI’dhad a tiny crush on Fox for a long time, but Ashley wasdifferent. The feeling wasbigger, more urgent.
It was hard being on theother side of the room right now. I wanted to touch him. Be close enough tofeel the heat of his body, for him to whisper inmyear.
That could not have been agood sign.
“Shit,” Gray said. “Betterget this suit dry cleaned tomorrow.”
“What?” I asked. “Why?”
“The look on your face, darling. Haven’t seen you smile like that in a long time. Maybe ever.”
“Yeah, not even at Fox,”Gray added. “Don’t propose at your sister’s wedding, it’s rude.”
I snorted, but my cheekswere heating up. “I’m not gonna propose. I’m not even… he’s not…”
“Ooh, are we talking aboutme?” Ashley asked, appearing at Fox’s shoulder as though he’d teleported there.
“No,” I said.
“Yes,” Fox and Graychorused.
Now the tips of my ears wereburning. It was famously easy to make me blush, but I still felt like I wasdoing it a lot tonight.
“Good,” Ashley said. “Comedance with me.”
My heart dropped tosomewhere around my belly button.
It must’ve shown on myface, because Ashley smirked and held his hand out.
“Don’t worry, honey,” hesaid. “I won’t bite unless you ask nicely.”
Was it Give Logan Hell Day,or something?
“Dance with the man, Logan,”Fox said. “You dragged him out here when he could have been having a quietnight at home with Zoe. Least you can do is entertain him.”
Ashley held his hand out, wiggling his fingers. The hope on his face left me with no choice—I had todance with him.
Every set of eyes seemed tofall on us as we stepped out onto the floor, just in time for the song tochange.
Ashley’s whole face litup, eyes glittering in the moonlight, flickering like the candles sprinkled allover the place.
My sister had made somecandle store’sentire year with this wedding.
“I love this song,” Ashelysaid, drawing me closer.
How could I deny him this? One last night of fun and laughter before he had to leave his friends—hischosen family, his home. It was the least I could do.
I took a deep breath andfollowed him, then took the lead instead. A flashback to teaching Kimmy todance for prom from instructions I’d found in a library book hit me, a smilespreading over my face.
Ashley already knew what hewas doing, but he put up with a first few awkward steps while I scraped therust off my dancing skills. I thought back to when I’d seen him dancing withGabe and tried to copy that, giving Ashley space to have a little fun.
