“Guess you couldn’t sleepeither?” I asked, wincing at how stupid the question sounded.
“Never can,” Logan said, looking down at the glass of water in his hand. “You’re really scared of thisguy, huh? This isn’t just an overprotective relative hiring me?”
“I’m scared,” I admitted. “I’m…”
Could I tell Logan all this?It was his job to know, but it wasn’t his job to listen to all the things I wasafraid of at three in the morning.
“Might as well tell me,”Logan said. “Not going back to bed anytime soon. I make a damned good hotchocolate if, uh. If… y’know, you’re not planning on going back to sleep rightnow.”
“I don’t think I could.”
I was still naked.
Logan wasn’t looking at me,but he wasn’t looking away, either. This didn’t bother him at all, did it?
Which meant he wasn’t interested.Which Iknew.
It was still a littledisheartening to have confirmation.
“Okay.” Logan nodded. “Howdo you feel about hot cocoa. And maybe putting on some pants?”
“Only maybe?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
Logan shrugged. “It’s your home. You’re not gonna offend my delicate sensibilities.”
“I guess they have communalshowers in the army,” I said aloud, and then wished I hadn’t.
I needed to stop looking atLogan’sabs.
He could have thrown me overhis shoulder and carried me off. Having a hot bodyguard was unfair.
I was scared, and fear wasmaking me horny. That was my excuse.
“They do,” Logan said. “Mybest friend is gay. I’ve seen him naked hundreds of times. It’s not a problem.I know I look like some big macho idiot, but I swear I’m not. Well, I mean… Itry not to be. The idiot part is kind of ingrained, but I don’t think I evenknowanyone straight.So. Don’tworry about it.”
“I don’t think you’re anidiot,” I said while I was processing the rest of that. Logan seemed like a lotof things, but notthat.
No more so than any otherstraight man, anyway.
“Thanks,” he smiled wryly.
“And you seem… I mean, I don’treally feel uncomfortable around you. No more than I would any other totalstranger.”
“Good.” Logan said. “Wheredo you keep your cocoa?”
“Uh. In the cabinets abovethe sink.”
It was Gabe’s cocoa, but Ididn’t think he’d mind. He wasn’t coming back for it.
“Okay,” Logan nodded again. “Pants. It’s cold. We’ll… sit a while. Sound good?”
“Sounds good,” I agreed. Ineeded the company. There was no way I was getting back to sleep right now.
“Go.” Logan smiled at me. “I’mhere. If you need me, just shout.”
Logan was here.
Logan was here, andeverything was going to be okay.
