Logan glanced over at Fox’s desk. “He’sstill working here then, huh?”
I nodded. “Yeah. He’s outwith a client right now. Between you and me? I think she’s kind of using him asan escort. But she always pays up and I actually think Fox kinda likes going toall those society dinners and stuff. He scrubs up well.”
“No surprise there,” Logansaid, grabbing Fox’s desk chair and dragging it over to sit in front of me. “Ibet they love that accent, too.”
“Yousureyou’re not gay?” Iasked.
“I can appreciate abeautiful man without wanting him to touch my dick,” Logan said. “Fox is abeautiful man.”
“I’m telling him you saidthat.”
“I’ll tell himmyself.” Logan whippedout his phone. “I’m texting him right now.”
“Let him know you’re intown, too,” I said. “He’ll wanna catch up.”
“Well, he’ll have plenty oftime,” Logan responded. “Just signed a twelve-month lease a few blocks away.”
“You’re moving toSacramento?”
Logan looked up at me, phoneforgotten for a moment. “Yeah. I uh… guess I should have told you, but itall happened so fast that I figured it’d be quicker to drop by once I got here.Uh. I was actually wondering if, umm… that job offer was still-”
“Absolutely,” I said withouthaving to think about it. “You can start training tomorrow. Fully paid for. Ican let your first client know you’ll be ready in a week.”
“Really?”
“Really,” I said.
Logan had saved my ass morethan enough times, and wehadthe work. The problem I kept running intowas only being able to juggle a few clients at a time. With three of us, wecould finally start expanding.
And there was no one inworld I trusted more than him. Logan wouldn’t let me down, I knew it.
“I can do the training in aweek?”
“Five days, actually. Youcould probably do it faster if you weren’t required to do a full forty hours. Iknow a guy who runs the courses, he’ll fast track you, but it’s gonna benine-to-five for those five days.”
“So basically a vacation?”Logan asked.
I snorted. “Yeah, look…basically a vacation. Once you’ve got the basic license, we can figure out therest. That’s all you need to start.”
“You seem reallyenthusiastic about this.”
“I am,” I agreed. “I alwayswanted you to be a part of this. We’re right on the verge ofgettingsomewhere.”
My phone buzzed, preventingme from launching into a monologue about how excited I was to see Logan and howsure I was that this would change everything. I was already figuring out how torearrange the space to fit three desks.
Miles Emerson: I’m okay. Thanksfor checking in on me.
Well, thatwas arelief. Miles didn’t seem mad at me for asking, and he was at least okay enough topretendhe was okay.Hell, maybe he really was. I’d gotten the impression when I’d first seen him atEmerson Medical that he was tougher than he looked.
Not invulnerable. No onewas. But used to taking care of himself. I even had evidence now that it wastrue, though I wished it hadn’t been. I was still thinking about Miles beingalone as a kid, sick and scared and without the support he deserved.
“New boyfriend?” Loganasked.
I looked up, frowning. “What? No.Current client.”
Logan raised an eyebrow. “Cute client?Because the way you were looking at that phone right now says you just got amessage from someone you like.”
Dammit.
