“All clear,” he said, grinning. “But you should haveseenyour face.”

“Asshole,” I responded, toorelieved to be upset. He hadn’t actually misled me, I’d just jumped toconclusions. He’d been nervous on the day he’d gone in for all his regulartests, and that was still fresh in my mind.

He was stuck with me nomatter what, but I was glad he was fine.

“You’d stay with me,” Milesmurmured, kissing the tip of my nose. “So I’m allowed to tease.”

“Glad you know.”

“I’ve known for a while,” hesaid, tilting his head to catch my lips, shuffling forward so he was pressedagainst me, my hand trapped between our stomachs. Midday meetings like thisdidn’tusuallyturn intoanything more than a quick kiss and coffee and hot chocolate nearby, but todaywas a special occasion. Miles was relieved, and so was I.

Besides, he was squirming inmy lap, and I had a hard time saying no to that. Animpossibletimesaying no to that. There was very little I could say no to Miles over, in fact.

“I could take the rest ofthe day off and drag you home,” he whispered in my ear, hot breath making thehairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Also makingotherthings start to stand up.

Miles chuckled, rocking hiships into mine. “Nowthat’snot very professional ofyou.”He laughed, grinding down so I could feel just howunprofessionalhe was feeling, too.

I’d just slipped a hand intothe back pocket of his pants when the office door opened.

Miles froze exactly where hewas, which was the most compromising position I could think of on short notice. He buried his face against my neck, apparently waiting for Fox to snort and sayhe’dcome back in five minutes, when we were done.

Which was rude, but Milesand Fox actually got along pretty well, as it turned out. They had similartastes in books.

I liked seeing Miles getalong with my friends. More people who’d take care of him if he ever needed it.More protectors.

Unfortunately, Fox wasn’t the one who’djust walked through the door.

Logan had. Along with Lucas.

And a woman I didn’t know.

So this was a little more embarrassingthan usual.

The woman raised an eyebrow.“Whoknew there’d be a free show?”

Lucas’ eyes gleamedwith silent laughter, his lower lip caught between his teeth. He’d changedsince I’d last seen him, but I would have recognized him anywhere.

“Well,Ididn’t,” Loganmumbled, blushing bright crimson to the tips of his ears.

He was in high demand, as it’d turned out.Clients described him as solid, soothing, a real gentleman and a professional.

Which meant he got all thenice high society jobs, because he wasrequested by namefor them.

I was proud of him. Hefinally seemed like he was starting to find himself.

“Not sure you want me to getup,” Miles whispered in my ear.

I really didn’t. Not with atotal stranger in the room.

She’d just have to accept thatthis was how things were here.

“Might take up that offer todrag me home,” I responded, subtly shifting my hand away from his ass. Whichfelt like a shame, because Miles had the kind of ass that demanded to besqueezed as often as possible.

I was still stupidly, intensely in love with him. If we’d passed the honeymoon period—and I got the feelingwe had, lunchtime makeout sessions aside—then we were probably going to be likethis until we were too old for it.

Wasn’t the worst way I could imaginespending the rest of my life.
