“I’m sorry,” Mike said, finally turning his back and striding away, walking as fast as he could without breaking into a run. Ezra watched him, his head still spinning with everything that had just happened.
Mike kissed him.
It wasreallyhot.
And now he was running away?
Ezra’s heart clenched in his chest. It was fine if Mike didn’t really want to go down this path. It was okay if he wanted to stay friends, wanted Ezra to forget any of this happened. Even if they were both perfectly sober, it was stillfine. Mistakes happened. Misunderstandings happened.
But Mike was walking away again. Abandoning Ezra right in the moment when they really needed to talk.
Teeth digging into his bottom lip, Ezra watched Mike walk all the way across the sanctuary grounds in the dim glow of the solar lights that made a path between the parking lot and the wedding celebrations. After a few long minutes, he watched Mike’s car pull away.
Great. Now not only was his heart breaking, but he needed a ride home, too.
