Chapter Twenty

Max rolled over as he woke, smiling when he saw Connor’s nakedshoulder beside him. Last night had been…

Well, it’d definitely beensomething.

Something good. Something he maybe wanted to do again, anddefinitely not something he regretted.

He leaned over to kiss Connor’s shoulder, breathing in the scentof his skin, enjoying the warmth of his body.

This was nice. He could have gotten used to this kind of thing.

“Morning,” he murmured as Connor rolled over, a bubble ofhappiness welling up in his chest.

“Good morning, sunshine,” Connor responded, a smile spreading overhis face.

“I’m getting up, but I’m not going far, okay?” Max said as herolled out of bed, grabbing his pants and pulling them on. His underwear wasnowhere to be seen, but he could survive going commando until he got home.

Connor made an unimpressed noise, but rolled back over a momentlater, snuggling under the covers.

Max grinned. That was adorable.

Max grabbed a t-shirt from the floor, heading into the kitchen andpulling it over his head as he went.

He realized too late that it wasConnor’st-shirt, not hisown. It was tight everywhere, and shorter than he would have liked, but hecouldn’t be bothered changing it. Not when he was on a mission.

He opened Connor’s fridge, grabbing bacon and eggs with a grin.

Max hadalwayswanted to make someone breakfast the morningafter. He’d screwed it up the first time, but this morning, he was making thatright.

Connor deserved better. He’d showed Max nothing but kindness andpatience, and Max wanted to return the favor.

Breakfast was a start.

He turned on the oven to pre-heat it for the bacon, then went insearch of a baking tray and frying pan, trying not to make too much noise andwake Connor. The kitchen was well-organized, so it only took a few moments ofsearching for Max to find what he needed.

This was going to be great. Connor wouldn’t know what hit him.

Max let himself sink into the rhythm of beating eggs and preparingbacon. Oven-fried bacon was his only secret culinary weapon, and he planned onshowing off.

He wanted Connor to like him. Whatever was going on between them,he wanted Connor to enjoy their time together.

Just as Max started to notice the smell of the bacon, Connor appeared.

Naked.

Totally, completely naked.

Max stared at him, his eyes drawn to the dark patch of hairbetween his legs before he looked away, not sure he should have been staring inthe first place.

Although… maybe it was okay? Connor had walked in naked, afterall.

“Is that bacon?” Connor asked, sitting down at the table.

He looked really great naked.

It was more distracting than Max had expected.

“Uh…” Max shook his head to clear it. “Yeah, umm… sorry I didn’task how you like your eggs, but I figure everyone likes scrambled?”
