“Mr. Doodle,” Rusty repeated. “As in…”
“As in, like, a little sketch you do on a napkin.” Blake smiled wryly. “But yeah. No one was entirely surprised when I turned out to be gay. My bear was innocent, though.”
“I believe you,” Rusty said. “We used to have a puppet on TV called Mr. Squiggle. He drew stuff on a grumpy blackboard.”
“Australian TV sounds weird.” Blake wrinkled his nose.
“Remind me to show you some of the stuff I used to watch as a kid,” Rusty said, laughing. “We got Sesame Street too, though. Bert and Ernie are definitely gay.”
Blake laughed at that, surprising himself with the sound. Rusty had made him laugh last time, too.
It was good to see him again, even if he’d never expected to.
“I’m gonna take that nap.” Rusty paused to yawn widely. “Wake me when there’s food.”
“I will,” Blake promised, eager to curl up and close his eyes for five minutes, too.
He was expecting this week to be stressful, but he got the feeling that having Rusty around would make it bearable. He was glad he’d asked him to come.
