“So far?” Nate’s voice goes cold. “Only that someone hired him to watch you. Along with Leo and me.”

Ice slides down my spine.

“Why would anyone do this?” I whisper, staring at the screen.

Addie’s arm wraps around my shoulders, and I lean into her without thinking.

At this point, I don’t even care if I get someone sick.

I just need the contact.

“People are seriously messed up,” she murmurs.

The waitress drops our drinks, then immediately loses her mind over the new puppy, completely ignoring Skye.

Rude.

I narrow my eyes at her.

There goes your tip.

I reach under the table and give Skye a few treats from my pockets so she knows I still love her.

Everyone takes long pulls of their drinks, even Mase, who will probably be regretting this tomorrow. He doesn’t normally drink during the season.

“So what now?” I ask, still unable to take my eyes off the guy until Nate physically removes the phone from me.

“We sit back and wait. We’ll get our answers,” he assures me. “Trust me.”

We pull up to the Moraleses’brownstone on the Upper East Side and wait for Harrison to come out and get the puppy, when suddenly I think of something, and it has me laughing out loud.

All heads turn toward me, even the dogs.

“Maybe Mama was onto something. I finally move to the big bad city, and what happens? I have someone after me, and I’m now involved with the Mafia.” I whisper the last part.

Mase rolls his eyes. “You’re not involved with them.”

I shrug. “Feels like it.”

Harrison waves us in. We all pile out of the car, and I let the dogs pee while the guys are on the struggle bus getting out.

It’s like a clown car.

Three huge men, stuffed in the back. I have no clue how they fit in there to begin with.

“Are you sure it’s okay that I’m here?” Addie asks for the tenth time.

“Adelaide,” Nate says, pulling her to a stop. “You’ve always been a part of this family, and now more than ever, we all need to be a unit.”

“God, don’t make me cry, Davenport.” She throws her arm over his shoulder and kisses his bicep because she can’t reach his cheek. “Love you, too.”

When we get closer to the house, the door widens, and there’s Rosa.

“Here’s my girl.” She holds out her arms and then pulls me into her chest. She doesn’t let me go until Nate pulls us apart. “I made your favorite tonight.”
