My lips curve into an over-the-top smile as I grab her tightly. “God, I love you.”
“You’d better. Your long-ass hair took so long to style that I had no time for me, and now it looks like shit.” She kisses me and walks out to get dressed.
“We should make this a yearly tradition.” I follow her into her room. “Every summer we’ll do a girls’ trip in Europe.”
“You go to Europe once, and now you have the travel bug.”
“How could I not? The food, the culture, the history, the architecture. What’s not to love?” I spin around excitedly. “I’m going to see if Camila is ready. Be back.”
Her door is ajar, so I walk in and hear her talking through her bathroom door.
I’m nosy, so I walk over to see who she’s talking to, wondering if it’s the guy she met the other night.
“They both leave tomorrow, but not until the night. You should get on the earliest flight possible,” Camila says, and I realize her phone is on speaker when I hear Leo’s voice reply.
“It’s up to Nate. I’m down for whatever.”
Nate…
“I need to talk to her. I-I don’t know why I never reached out. I was trying to be respectful of what she wanted,” Nate’s voice cuts in.
I suck in a deep breath, covering my mouth so no one hears.
Oh god, what are they planning?
“I wanted to set her up last night, but she wouldn’t bite,” Camila says.
“Are you out of your mind, Camila? Why the hell would you set her up with anyone? Where’s the loyalty?”
“You’re missing the freaking point, Nate. She still loves you. She wanted nothing to do with them. Don’t let this go on too long. You need to explain to her why?—”
Leo interrupts Camila. “Okay. I just spoke to the pilot; he was able to change the plan. We will arrive now at six in the morning.”
Explain what to me?
And what the hell is Camila thinking?
The conversation echoes in my head, my stomach knotting with betrayal, and nausea quickly rises. I feel sick that she would go behind my back like this.
I need to get the hell out of here.
“What’s wrong with you?” Addie cuts through my haze as I walk back into the room.
My jaw locks, trapping the truth before it can spill.
Not here, not tonight. Tomorrow, after we leave, I’ll tell her everything.
“I think I ate something bad,” I manage, forcing a grimace. “My stomach’s wrecked. I don’t think I can go out anymore.”
It’s not a complete lie.
Concern clouds Addie’s features. “I’ll stay back with you.”
“No way.” I strip down and crawl under the covers. “Go have fun. I want to close my eyes for a little while. Can you tell Camila?”
“You didn’t tell her?”
I roll to my side, unable to meet her gaze any longer. “No. Didn’t even make it to her room.”
