“What was the plan?”

“Don’t worry about it,” he snaps and stretches his head out into the street, looking for Robert.

He said ten minutes, you big idiot.

I teeter back and forth on my heels as a muddled mess of emotions runs through me.

A small twinge shoots into my leg, and I rub it out with my knuckles.

He looks me over and scoffs loudly before turning his attention back to the street.

What the fuck is his problem?

“Why did you make that sound?”

He looks over his shoulder. “If you don’t want to take care of yourself, why should I bother?”

What is this man talking about? “Can you stop talking in riddles? What’s the issue, Harrison?”

I see him debating whether he wants to talk to me, but his pride loses this time. “You’re rubbing your leg. You may not want to talk about it, but that doesn’t mean I won’t make sure you’re taken care of. You were rubbing your leg, and earlier, you were limping in baking class, too.”

“I know.” He’s right. I was in a lot of pain toward the end of class. “I had Becks massage me, and I iced it on and off for an hour.”

He scoffs again.

“Stop with the fucking scoffing, Harrison,” I snap in frustration.

“Then why are you wearing those fucking death heels?” he booms.

I pause, taken back by his anger.

…And then it hits me.

This goddamn, moronic, idiotic, amazing, perfect man.

If I didn’t already have feelings for him, this would do me in.

I lower my voice. “You didn’t want me to wear them because you thought they would hurt my leg?”

He doesn’t answer. Instead, he fiddles with his watch and fixes his cufflinks.

He won’t look at me.

I walk up to him, so close we’re touching.

“Tell me, Harrison,” I whisper.

He audibly gulps and nods his head.

“I know you like taking walks, and it’s a beautiful night. But there was no way I was letting you walk there with those fucking things on.”

My heart swells, nearly exploding out of my chest.

“I want to walk with you,” I tell him, squeezing his hand tightly.

“No, it’s too late. Robert will drive us,” he says with finality, but not on my watch.

I walk to the side where my bag is and unzip it, finding my flats.
