She replies in giggles.
“I love you, my precious angel. I’ll miss you.”
She throws her arms around me. “I love you more. Will you visit after work one day?”
I glance up at Seb, and he nods.
Although we all pitch in and care for Claud together, when one of the brothers has a designated week, I try to give them alone time since I see her the most.
Except with this being two weeks, one with Seb and one with Leo, there is no way I’ll be able to stay away.
“I’ll be there and show you who the best diver in the family is.”
She giggles again. “You’re the best, Daddy.”
Reluctantly, I release her before I don’t let her go at all. “I’ll call you later to say goodnight.”
She waves goodbye and climbs up to buckle herself into her booster seat.
“It feels like Thanksgiving when you need to unbutton your pants from being so full,” Nate says to Leo while they give their baby, Skye, some love before she jumps in the back with Claud.
“I know. Mom’s french toast will do that.”
“Are you going like that, or are we changing before the bar?”
Leo looks between them. “We do look douchey to go to a hole-in-the-wall pub, but I don’t think we have time.”
“Where are you two going?” I interrupt them.
It’s Sunday afternoon; typically, it’s my day with Claud. I’m not sure I want to go home and think about how the house is so empty.
Leo smirks. “Out.”
“Out where?” I ask, already annoyed. Why is he being so elusive?
“To the pub for the Italy-Brazil game—we’re meeting Matteo.”
“Oh, I’m coming with you guys. I can’t sit at home right now.”
Nate’s eyes sparkle like he knows something interesting.
“What is it?” I ask.
“Matteo texted and might have mentioned a brown-haired beauty is in attendance.”
My eyes bulge. “What the hell? And you weren’t going to tell me?”
“We thought you might be off her after her little stunt in your office.” He waggles his eyebrows like a dickhead.
I stare at him like I want to kill him. “Fuck off, let’s go.”
Leo hits Nate in the arm to get his attention. “I’ve never seen the man move so fast to get somewhere in my life,” he murmurs, and Nate bursts out laughing.
“Wow, what a comedian,” I mock.
But also, get me to the goddamn bar, now.
