I woke up feeling hot and agitated, but that was because I had been stupid enough to fall asleep before showering. My stomach washungry though, so I knew it was well past time I got up. When I got to the kitchen, I saw her sitting at the table, reading on her kindle. She was fully dressed already.

“Sorry,” I mumbled. “I’ll cook breakfast.”

She looked up at me, her smile turning to a frown. “Are you hungover?”

“No,” I chuckled. “I just…slept in.”

“How was your night?” she asked me. I didn’t miss the edge to her tone. Usually she smiled at me as I moved about the kitchen, eager for whatever I was going to cook for us, but this morning, she was shut off from me.

Viper had better not have upset her or I’d knock him the fuck out.

“Pretty boring actually,” I told her, honestly. “What about yours? I see Viper didn’t bother to look for the leftovers I left for you.”

She smirked and put her kindle down. Finally, a smile. “Nope. I take it that he doesn’t know how to use an oven.”

I shook my head. “Most of the boys don’t.”

Darby sidled up the counter and there it was again. Hard dick the second I inhaled that flowery concoction of a perfume. “Did you even change?”

I looked down and sighed. “No…fuck. I’ll go shower quickly before I cook.”

When I moved past her, she stumbled a little over the end of the kitchen stool. I whipped around and caught her, making sure she was steady on her feet before I moved back. My dick was painfully pressing against my pants now.

Her smile was lost and she looked…upset. Her eyes became a little watery before she stepped away from me.

“You good?”

“Yep.”

She wouldn’t meet my eyes and somehow I knew she was mad at me. Had she felt my raging erection for her? Was she upset I touched her?

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, Rebel, go and change,” she barked out and moved away from me again.

“What the fuck?” I replied. “You were smiling not two minutes ago and now you’re pissed at me?”

“Whatever,” she said, stomping back to her room and slamming the door.

My mind was reeling from the whiplash of what had just happened. I should leave it be and let her calm down on her own but I couldn’t. Blame it on the lack of blood circulating in my brain while I stormed after her and opened the door. She was sitting on the edge of her bed, anger written all over her face.

“Are you hormonal or something? Is it that time of month?”

The look she shot me instantly had me regretting it the second I saw how mad she’d gotten. Fuck. Fuck.

Abort, abort, my mind screamed. Before I could retreat, she opened that gorgeous mouth of hers.

“Why would you ask that?”

“I don’t know, Darby, I don’t know this shit. I didn’t grow up around women and the women who I did know didn’t get periods anymore. I just…I don’t know what to do here.”

“Okay, I can understand that, so let me give you a lesson…I can be emotional and cry without my period, I can do it at any given time of day. I can be emotional because I’m ovulating and horny as fuck, and I can be emotional because I saw a sad thing in a movie. It doesn’t relate to me bleeding for a week every month. Even if I were due for them, bringing it up like that…bad fucking move.”

I sighed. “You’re right. I’m sorry. I just…don’t know any of this shit.”

“Obviously. I don’t know anything about you and I’m stuck here with you and I literally have no idea who you are. I don’t even know your real name.”

I never told anyone my name. No one, only my brothers knew it, and yet I felt like I wanted her toknow it, too. What the hell was happening to me? “Kendrick.”
