“Is he in there? Is he naked? How was it?” Her eyes grow wide, and her lopsided grin takes shape on her face.
“Are you done?” I laugh, shaking my head.
“Yes, now tell me. How?!” She grabs my hands and pulls me out the door like she’s afraid that if she doesn’t, I’ll go back inside and she’ll never know.
“Well, last night he was sick, so I went over and—”
She cuts me off with a bark of laughter. “And what?! You healed him with your magical vagina?!”
My face and ears feel hot, but I laugh despite myself. “Such a brat.”
“Bitch, you went over there to help a sick man and ended up naked. That’s the best thing I’ve ever heard.”
“I’m glad this brings you joy,” I say, letting the words drip with fake enthusiasm.
“So how was it?” she asks, leaning in closer.
“Are you here for a reason?” I ask, covering my face.
“Uh, yeah, you didn’t answer your phone, and I called three times. I have a three-call to a twenty-four-hour span rule. Don’t answer at three, and I’m coming for a wellness check,” she explains. “But clearly someone else has already checked your wellness, so I’ll get going.”
She cackles as she turns to walk down the steps.
“I hope you know I’m telling everyone you two are dating now,” she calls out over her shoulder.
“Of course you are because you’re a menace.”
“Your favorite!”
I laugh because she’s right. “Hey,” I call out before she can close her car door. “Thanks for checking on me.”
“Of course,” she says, smiling warmly. “And Tris, I’m happy for you. You two? It’s a good thing.”
My chest expands, and with a smile, I hum, slowly nodding my head before she drives away.
She’s not the only one who thinks so.
Chapter Nineteen
Levi
“Well, I don’t think we have to worry about making anything Facebook official,” Tris mutters as she walks back inside, joining me in the kitchen.
I raise a brow.
“That was Rory.”
“Ah,” I say, understanding dawning on me. “Other than you and Ainsley, her best friend is Billy.”
“Which means not only will my friends know soon,” she starts.
“But so will the fire department and probably the rest of Turtle Bay,” I finish, nodding my head and opening my arms for her to fold into.
She looks up at me with a smile and chuckles, but I don’t miss how it sounds shaky at the end. “Is that okay with you?”
She still sounds unsure, like she’s worried I’m going to change my mind.
“I’m in this,” I tell her, kissing her forehead.
