“Hold up,” Eric interjected. “Just so we’re clear, you’re saying all four of these women were killed by thesameman?”

Whoever did this wasn’t a man. He was a sadistic freak who got off by abducting women and then rendering them defenseless against his brutal attacks.

Maggie nodded. “I’m afraid so, Detective. The markings on the wrists, ankles, and neck all match, as does the trauma to the vaginal region. There’s also—”

“Ankles?” Riley and Eric blurted their one-word question in unison.

Rather than verbally explain, Maggie let go of the sheet and moved to their victim’s feet. Pulling the cloth back a few inches, she showed them exactly what she meant.

The skin around Kennedy’s thin ankles matched that of her wrists. And, according to Maggie, the other three women’s ankles looked exactly the same.

“I knew it.” Riley turned to Eric. “Remember that night at The Swinging Pig? We were paying pool when the news broke of the discovery of the third victim. I knew then that it was the same guy.”

She’d shared her concerns with Eric, but he’d quickly shut her down by reminding her those other cases were being investigated by the homicide division. He’d told her they should let those guys worry about them.

And now the same murderer had claimed another victim.

Chapter 3

––––––––

It’s like New Yorkall over again.

The massive case of déjà vu made Riley’s head spin. There was a serial killer on the loose. One that sexually assaulted his victims before strangling them with a rope.

Just like the one she’d encountered in New York.

“There’s more,” Maggie spoke again.

Eric’s brows shot up. “More?”

Covering Kennedy’s bare feet with the sheet, Maggie walked back up toward her head. She opened her mouth but closed it again, as if she were hesitant to say this next part.

“You both know that when my team and I first come into contact with a body at a scene, we disturb it as little as possible to preserve evidence that could be used later to solve the case.”

“Yeah, Doc.” Eric’s gorgeous eyes glittered with confusion. “We know that.”
