What the…
Both he and Ellena froze.
“What is that?” Her blue eyes grew wide. “Gabe?”
He stared down at his wife. Her cheeks had become flushed with arousal and her chest was heaving, eagerly pushing her breasts toward him. Gabe was so enthralled by the pointed nipples playing peak-a-boo through her white, lacy bra that it took him a few seconds to answer.
Shit.“It’s my phone.” He jumped off of her, grabbed his gun, and went straight for his phone, which he’d left on the kitchen table.
Taken off guard by his sudden movements, Ellena blinked quickly as she sat up and began re-buttoning her shirt. “That’s one heck of a ring tone.”
“Not a ringtone.” He studied his phone’s screen, frowning as he marched to the nearest window. “It’s an alarm.”
“You have someplace to be?” She gave him a tiny smirk.
Gabe pushed the curtain aside just enough to be able to see out. “Not that kind of alarm, sweetheart. It’s a program Nate created. It’s connected to a security system that lines the cabin’s perimeter.”
“Meaning?”
He looked back at her from over his shoulder. “Meaning someone’s here.”
“They found us?” Ellena shot up from the couch, her panic obvious. “W-what do we do?”
Gabe looked back through the window, his muscles relaxing a few seconds later when he recognized the truck—and its driver—headed in their direction.
“Nothing.” Turning around, he shoved his gun back into his waistband and began re-buckling his belt as he made his way back to her. “It’s just Nate.”
Ellena blew out a breath of relief. “Oh, thank God. I thought…”
“I know.” Gabe put his hands on her shoulders. “I’m sorry.”
“Sorry I was scared, or that we almost…” She glanced back at the couch.
Using a gentle touch, he turned her chin in his direction, forcing her to look at him. “The only way I’d be sorry about that”—he motioned toward the couch—“is ifyouwere sorry.”
Her ocean eyes stared back into his. “I’m not sorry.”
Thank God.
Gabe exhaled loudly and pulled her to him. “Good.” He squeezed his eyes shut when he felt her arms tightening around him.
As much as he wanted to kiss her again—and do a hell of a lotmore—he relished in how good it felt to have this woman back in his arms. They continued to stand like that, holding onto one another, until there was a loud knocking on the door.
Fucking Carter.
“I should probably let him in.”
Releasing him, Ellena bent over and picked up his shirt from where she’d thrown it on the floor. With a suddenly shy smile, she held it out for him.
“You should probably be wearing this when you do.”
“Thanks.” Gabe grinned as he slid his arms through the holes and pulled it over his head. Then, because he couldn’t stand not to, he cupped her face and pressed his lips to hers once more.
Moving more slowly than before, he savored the sweetness of her taste, their tongues gently caressing each other’s as if they had all the time in the world. When another round of pounding came from the door, Gabe growled.
“I’d better answer that before he decides to break the damn thing down.”
Gabe made his way to the door and began disengaging the locks. Giving Ellena one final glance over his shoulder, he opened the door with a glare.
