“Sure.”
As she headed back to the kitchen, Ellena heard him mumble something to his team as he led them into the living room.
Part of her wanted to balk at the way she’d practically been dismissed like the good little wife, but the other part…a bigger part…was more than happy to have a moment of privacy to clear her head before dealing with his team.
By the time everyone’s cups were filled, Ellena felt a bit more centered. But as she stood there, waiting for someone to say something, she couldn’t help but wonder why any of this was happening. One minute her life was normal…
Normal. Lonely. Whatever.
The next, someone was watching her. Takingpicturesof her and then sending them along with a vague warning. But for what purpose? To scare her or was it something more?
They can find you anywhere.
A shiver ran down her spine as she thought of the email’s chilling words.
“Elle?”
Ellena blinked, realizing too late that everyone was staring at her expectantly. She looked back at Gabe, who’d clearly been trying to get her attention. “I’m sorry, what?”
Concern flittered across his handsome face. “You okay? Do you need to lie down?”
“No.” She offered him a shaky smile. “I’m good. This is all just…”
Surreal.
“A lot to take in.” His eyes softened. “I know.”
He was right. It was a lot. And scary as hell.
“Why don’t you have a seat.” Gabe motioned to the empty chair next to where he stood.
“Okay,” Ellena agreed. Because really, what else could she do?
He’d told her a little about his job with R.I.S.C. after he’d called his team in. Knowing what Gabe did for a living and who he worked for now, she was confident he and the rest of Bravo Team had a much better chance at catching this guy than the local authorities would.
So as hard as it was to be around him again, Ellena knew if she wanted the person behind the email—and quite possibly her accident—these were the best men for the job.
Besides that, the San Diego police department had a lot on their plate these days. Cases that were much more important to them than some random stalker.
What’s happening to you isn’t random.
Ignoring the annoying little voice, Ellena took a seat in one of two matching chairs positioned around her living room space.
With two other chairs, a couch, and a loveseat, there were more than enough places for everyone to sit. Even so, Gabe chose to stand next to her.
Using a memory technique she learned in college, she already knew the others’ names and what their specialties were.
Nate was Bravo Team’s technical guru, Kole and Zade were snipers, and Matt was the team’s medic. And of course, Gabe was the team leader.
A fact that didn’t surprise Ellena in the least.
With his large arms crossed at his chest, her estranged husband gave her a tip of his chin. “Why don’t you tell them everything that’s been happening to you.”
He’d given Nate the cliff notes version when they’d talked earlier, but he wanted the team to hear it from Elle’s perspective.
“I don’t even really know where to start.” She looked around the room. “I had no idea any of this was happening. I mean, there was one day where I felt like someone was watching me, but other than that…”
“When was that?” Nate asked.
