Her gorgeous, emerald eyes rolled, and damn if Adrian wasn’t tempted to smile. As if suddenly realizing her hands were free, she used one to rip the tape quickly from her lips.
With a wince, she threw it onto the floor next to her feet then brought the hand back up to help steady the gun. “Don’t you fucking touch me.”
“I don’t want to hurt you, Jenna.” He spoke quickly, taking another step closer. Worried the dickhead on the floor may still be able to hear him, he mouthed to her, ‘I’m undercover.’
“Right.” Skin reddened by the sting of the tape, Jenna gave him a look that said she wasn’t buying it for a second. “Because I’mthatstupid.”
Damn, she was something else.
The woman had been kidnapped, held captive, and had come damn close to being sexually assaulted seconds before. Most women would be cowering down in a puddle of tears, but not his Jenna. She was as fiery and as full of sass as ever.
Not yours, dumbass.
Fuck. That tiny voice was right. There wasn’t a woman on the planet who’d want anything to do with a guy like him. Especially not the one whose mesmerizing eyes were currently shooting daggers back into his.
“Fine. Here.” He gave the keys a gentle toss. “You do it.”
Without blinking, Jenna caught the keys with one hand. She took all of two seconds to look away from him and start working the cuffs.
Letting them fall from her wrist, the metal bracelets clinked together when they hit the floor. “Now what?” She sneered back at him. “Am I supposed to say, ‘thank you’?”
“No.” He shook his head. “But I do need you to listen to me very carefully.” Adrian glanced over her shoulder at Hall, who still appeared to be unconscious. “He’s going to wake up very soon, and when he does, he’s going to be pissed.”
“Guess it’ll be a party, then, because I’m not particularly happy right now, either.”
Jesus, she got his blood pumping in ways it hadn’t in years. But he blocked it all out and stayed focused.
“I’m going to pick those up.” He motioned to the cuffs. “Then I’m going to put them on him so we can talk.”
“Newsflash, asshole. I don’t want totalk. I want you to give me the keys to your car so I can get the hell out of here.”
“Can’t do that.”
“Uh…this little guy right here”—she wiggled the gun—“says you can.”
Adrian’s lips twitched, but then he flattened his lips and turned his voice lower. “Not if you want Ellena to live.”
The breath escaped her lungs in a low huff. “I knew it. You’re the one, aren’t you?” She rolled her lips inward. “You’re the one who’s been stalking her.”
“I’m one of them, yes.” He took a step closer. “But not for the reason you think.”
She barked out a laugh. “So youdothink I’m stupid.”
“No. I think you’re scared. And you should be.”
Just a little closer.
“Really?” Jenna glanced down at the weapon in her hand. “Because the way I see it, you’re the one who should be—”
Adrian snaked his hand out and grabbed her wrist. Surprised by the sudden move, she cried out, immediately going all hellcat on him as she attempted to keep hold of the gun.
Nice try, sweetheart.
Given his training and background, it didn’t take much for him to gain control of both the woman and the weapon. Still, she fought back with a vengeance.
“Stop,” Adrian ordered, his voice loud and sharp.
Not surprising, Jenna continued kicking and fighting to break free of his hold.
