Once they got him to calm down and look at the situation objectively, he realized they were right to stop him. If he went charging in, Young would most likely kill Lexi before he had a chance to prevent it.

As hard as it was, Trevor forced himself to move slowly, just as he would if this were any other op. He had to put the fact that it was his Lexi on the other side of that wall. Had to forget about the fact that she’d told him she loved him...right before she was tortured in one of the worst ways possible.

I’m here, angel. Hang on just a little longer.

The team continued on through another wide, open space. Sets of steel beams ran across the high ceiling above them as others stood upright along both sides of the building. It was like walking through a steel giant’s ribcage.

Light from the broken, multi-paned windows running along the length of the room shone in on them as their boots made their way silently across the floor. Glass, dirt, and other debris littered the floor, and they had to step carefully so they wouldn’t give their presence away.

“I said shut up!”

The loud, angry voice made them freeze.

“He sounds pissed,” Mac said on a low whisper.

Part of Trevor wanted to smile, knowing Lexi was giving him hell. That’s my girl.

“We need to go, now,” Trevor whispered back. “She pushes him too far, he’ll kill her for sure.”

“Agreed.” Jake kept his voice low. He looked toward the closed door in front of them, then back to Trevor. With one look, he silently asked, Trevor, “Can you handle it?”

Without hesitation, Trevor gave his boss and best friend one, sharp nod and mouthed back. “I’m good.”

The team made their way closer to the door. With an assessing eye, Jake tilted his head in response and then used hand gestures to give orders to the rest of the team.

He raised a hand and started counting down from three. Just as he got to one, Trevor grabbed his arm and shook his head.

Their team leader’s face twisted with confusion. Not wanting to talk for fear they’d be heard, Trevor pulled his phone from his pocket and quickly opened his notes app. His thumbs flew over the screen as he typed what he wanted to say.

Can’t all go in. He’ll panic...can’t risk Lex.

He held his phone up for Jake to see. Jake’s eyes scanned the message. He then took the phone from Trevor and typed his own.

Not going by yourself

Trevor saw the message and shook his head. Grabbing the phone, he wrote his response with

No visual. Unknown position.

The swapping of messages continued.

Jake: I’ll text Ryker. See what he knows. His group may be outside and ready.

Trevor: No time.

Jake: Can’t let u go in alone.

Trevor: Won’t make a move on me until he kills her. He won’t get that chance.

Jake looked pissed as he considered what Trevor was saying. Trevor took the phone back.

Have to do this. Has to end now.

After reading Trevor’s words, Jake looked at him, then back to the phone. Typing one, final message, Jake handed Trevor his phone back for the last time.

You get killed, I’m gonna kick your ass.

As serious as the situation was, Trevor’s mouth turned up in a slight grin. He slapped Jake’s arm and stepped around him, leaving his friend to explain it all to the others.
