“I take it that you handled your business?” I asked a question and made an assumption at the same time.

He didn’t answer verbally. Instead, he pulled his phone from his pocket, tapped on the screen a few times, then held it out to me. I took it and saw a picture of two pregnancy tests. Just like a woman with a keen eye for detail, I zoomed in on a foot with a French pedicure in the corner of the picture.

“She took these?” I asked, handing him back the phone.

“Yeah.”

I then looked back up to him. “You watched her do it?”

“Yeah.”

“Now I’m mad.”

He squinted and threw his head back. “You losing me. You mad cause they negative?”

“No. I’m mad cause you stood in the bathroom and watched her pee.”

“Yo.” He held his fist to his mouth and chuckled. “Let’s keep focused on the important shit, Ma. She not pregnant.”

“You right,” I conceded.

“And you the only woman that will ever bear my children.” He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close.

“Right again.”

“I meant what I said about not sleeping alone too, so we gon’ do the couch or the bed?”

I laid my head on his chest. “Definitely can’t both fit on the couch with all this stomach. We can go upstairs.”

“Aight.” He kicked his sneakers off, and we walked up the steps to my bedroom.

Pryce undressed, taking off everything including his boxers, and got in the bed.

“I’m gonna throw your clothes in the wash.” Picking his stuff up, I walked out of the room before he could stop me.

Tossing them in the washing machine, along with a Tide pod, I started it and returned back to the room. Climbing in the bed, I got comfortable on my side with my back facing him, while he cuddled me from behind.

“Bae,” he called out lowly.

“Hmm?”

“We bout to have a little girl. That shit is crazy.”

I smiled and interlocked my hand with his that rested on my stomach. “I know, right? And she’ll be here soon. You happy it’s a girl?”

“Yes and no, honestly. Yes because I know she’ll be a Daddy’s girl and a miniature version of you. No because the thought of the lengths I’ll go to to protect even scaring me when I’m thinking about it.”

“You don’t think you’d feel the same if we were having a son?”

“Of course, bae. I’m a protector first and foremost. It’s just that bond between a father and daughter is different. Look at how you are wit’ your pops. How Key is with hers. Still, despite his condition, Uncle Step is still her world.”

I nodded, seeing where he was coming from.

“I’ma have to be a superhero out this bitch. Like she really gotta believe Daddy wear a cape. And not no regular shit either. My shit gon’ be swagged out.”

I laughed softly. “I know that’s right, baby. I’ll be right there with the glue gun and Bedazzler, helping you get it right.”

“Bedazzler? You got me fucked up. Go to sleep, woman.”
