Leave it to Prue to cause me to stray off track.
She is worth it though. I could spend my life in prison if it meant she was safe. And I have a feeling that’s going to be a real possibility.
Assault with a deadly weapon? What a load of crap. It was a pocketknife, that was sharp enough to pierce my shoulder, but still. Charles is pathetic for calling the cops on me. No doubt he is teaming up with her father now.
They couldn’t just let her be. Which, trust me, I get it, but given how neither of the pricks really care about her, I don’t understand why they can’t just get in bed together and leave her out of it.
What does it matter if Charles marries her? If the two families want to go in business, why does marriage have to be involved? This isn’t the olden days for crying out loud.
I sit in a questioning room, waiting for someone to come ask me questions I have no plans on answering. It would only do me harm to talk to anyone without my lawyer present.
“Mr. Parker.” A female detective walks in with her male counterpart behind her. “We got some questions for you.”
“I have one answer for you, dear.” I smile.
“And that is?”
“I’m not speaking without my lawyer present.”
“Is that really the road you want to take,” the male counterpart speaks.
I nod.
“All we want is some information on what happened. He says one thing, you say another, maybe we find out this is all abig misunderstanding,” the woman says, playing good cop. They sent in a woman undoubtedly thinking the playboy rock star would be more willing to speak to a chick.
I shrug.
“Come on, buddy, give us your side of the story,” the guy says, folding his arms. “The guy is like twice your size, I’m sure you didn’t have much choice on how you decided to fight back.”
I stare at him. They haven’t said Charles’ name, most likely hoping I bring him up, and that sets me at the scene. I’m not stupid. I watched enough TV to know how this works.
“Well, you know, it’s Saturday night and most lawyers don’t work on weekends, so looks like you will be spending some time in a cell.”
“Cool. But I do get a phone call, right?”
“Eventually.”
I just nod.
My only hope is that Prue has called Wes and stays fucking put. Not knowing is probably going to drive me crazy and keep me up all night, but I have little choice at this moment.
Whatever happens from here on out, I just have to hope Prue realizes she is worth more than either of those dicks have to offer her. Hopefully my sacrifice will be enough to convince her to let herself be happy.
TWENTY-NINE
I callWes the minute they haul Ben away, using his phone. I don’t question why the guy doesn’t use a pin to lock his phone, because I highly doubt he ever lets anyone else touch it.
“Hey, you good?”
“No. He is not good,” I say into the phone.
“I’m going to guess you’re Prue.”
“Yes. Ben has been arrested,” I blurt out. “He told me to call you. Said you could get him a lawyer.”
“Arrested? For what? What did you get him into? Drugs?”
“No. I didn’t get him into drugs,” I snap back. “He got arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.”
